I totally agree with Sugar. It’s fine for everyone to have dreams and aspirations, but no-one should feel that they deserve to be handed something on a plate, they should be prepared to work for it like most people have to.

I work hard for my money too and have never claimed benefits before. But there is a need to have a benefits system. It’s a shame it’s abused by some, but you can’t scrap it otherwise crime, homelessness etc would shoot up. And I don’t mind paying taxes either.

SM – you can’t “go back to lurking” as you have the highest post count on here, so can’t have been a lurker in the first place! I don’t think the hostility was intended to be directed at you, but it does seem to have come across that way. As you say, you are prepared to work to better yourself, and that’s commendable. I hope Philip manages to find something too.

I agree Fitz, the system is most definately needed. Lots of people have unexpected things happen and as you say taxes are needed just for that reason.

i dont know if beenie relates to this but getting pg at 17 ive had a "teenage pregnancy good for nothing on benefits" scraped in to my forehead .. so its nice not to have benefits for that reason ive been on them since i found out i was pg with zoe and its feels nice to not but looked down on .. i know the system is there if the worst should happen but its nice to feel like im helping by working x

Pah, so much to say, but I keep deleting it because it's not quite right. I give up.

I'm off to bed otherwise I will have bags under my eyes for meeting Csh and I need to chose a nice outfit in the morning for Holly to impress Kieren with (although definitely not ironing anything as I don't even know where the iron is kept).

I do relate to it in a way, although i never felt like i was contributing much cos when i was part time i was earning too little to pay tax anyway! lol. I was on about £3.60 an hour. Used to annoy me that the 22 year old's who lived at home got paid more than me though! Tho that was more before preg cos i moved into private rented at 16 to get away from my moron mother!
My biggest motive was not ending up like her, she'll never work again and she's only 40-odd, she's a proper waster. I don't want the kids thinking its a way of life like she sees it. And also people were always surprised to learn that i was in a stable job, cos they assume being single i'd not bother. Although, i am that stereotype now! Just temp though.
