I don't have any worries at all. But then I can feel her wriggling around 24/7. I am the one that feels like an elephant sometimes (even though I know I'm not the size some people are). He gets to feel the odd kick and wriggle now and then....and gets to compare my size to other pregnant ladies that we know (one is further gone, one is 1 month behind...and both are bigger than me).
Add to that the problems he's had in the past (lost 2 boys at 20 weeks for various reasons) and you get one naturally worried bloke.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

Bump sizes are very deceptive IMO. With my first 3 children I didn't really have a very big bump and didn't really look pregnant. Although all were born slightly early (33wks, 38wks, 36wks) they were all very good weights for their dates. With this pregnancy I was convinced I was having a huge baby as I am 35+3weeks and bigger than I have ever ever been before (have a big sticky outy tummy that can knock you over if you tried to squeeze past me, everyone keeps saying haven't you had that baby yet) but I have just been told that the baby has IUGR (as was growing normally until recently) and is around 4lbs in weight give or take 15% and I don't have much liquor. So don't worry too much, ask at your next appointment to reasure yourself.0

rchddap1 - I know how difficult it is worrying about the size of your bump and how hard it is for dad's to feel involved. The background to his worries certainly justifies his being nervous.
Have you had your 20wk scan? We were worried about how small I was but got given some extra info & graphs at that scan which showed that the size of the baby was within the normal guidelines for my dates. This really reassured me as I was quite worried.
I'm 27 weeks now and people are still surprised I'm pregnant. Those who don't know say they wouldn't have guessed (despite what I think is a big spurt in the last couple of weeks). I'm sick of not looking pregnant to be honest!
Lydia 42 - don't automatically assume you'll pile the weight back on. What you've achieved is fantastic, but you need to truly believe that you don't have to revert to how things were.
I have lost weight with SW, it's a great plan. I was worried about becoming the size of a house, but eating sensibly means it hasn't happened. I had a friend who put 5 stone on while she was pregnant as it gave her the perfect excuse to eat whatever she wanted - and lots of it! She freely admits this is how it was, but it made her even more miserable when baby was born and she realised she had another mountain to climb with her weight.
At 27 weeks I've put just slightly over a stone on, so I'm on course to have a 'normal' weight gain. Don't be scared about the prospect of what the scales say. You need to be positive about gaining some weight - which is the baby, fluids etc - but not huge amounts.
Just eat healthily, plenty of fruit and veg. Drink plenty of water and stay active. If you do this, you've nothing to fear. Even if this doesn't happen, you've lost the weight before so I'm sure you can do it again. Forgot to say, what do people think of TENS machines? I was thinking of hiring one, but have found this one on e-bay which seems to be the same price but to buy it.

As we're planning to have more than 1 baby I thought this would be a good way of saving money. :money:

I'm actually at 30 weeks....so well past the 20 week scan and at that everything was fine. As I said, I'm sure everything is perfectly normal (had no problems at all so far.....which is great for my first)...he's just a tad nervous.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

Hi everyone,
Just thought I'd let you know that I had my scan yesterday. Everything is well with the baby and we found out it's a girl, I'm so happy! For those of you who are in two minds whether to find out the sex I think it does help a bit with 'bonding' before birth as I have a real feeling of a connection now - not that I didn't feel connected before I knew but I can picture my baby more vividly now and am 'talking' to her in my head (lol I sound like a nutter!). My other children are very excited too!

I had a tens machine with Ds and found it irritating, the pads kept falling off and the sensation was annoying after a while. This was nearly 12 years ago though so I guess they may have improved in that time.

Hi rchddap1, I think some of us carry more 'inwards' instead of outwards and that makes the bump look a bit smaller, also the way the baby lies can affect the bump size, I'm sure if your midwife is happy with you then everything should be OK.

We've just got back from a 'look & book' at the birth centre and it was great! I was worried about what would happen in an emergency and thought this would put me off, but it's so lovely - a real home from home - that I'm not worried about that at all now!
It is likely that there will only be me giving birth there and there's a midwife for each person. They've only got 4 rooms anyway, so that's the maximum no of people there could be. Not like a busy maternity ward that's for sure!:T
Plus there's a lovely birthing pool, which they actively encourage you to give birth in instead of having to get out to actually give birth, which I've heard happens at our local hospital.
Am v excited all of a sudden now. :j Still got 13 weeks to go though!MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090
