hi my sister had an amnio with her first child she was as scared as you are she needed it repeated and found if you listen to some music through ear phones and or have someone who you trust to sit and hold your hand while the amnio is being performed it helps alot.
i hope everything goes okay for you
good luck0 -
That happened to us with our first child.
He was borderline and our dr spoke about termination.
I was so upset ,I didnt go to work for a week. Then my SIL who was a haematologist said ring the hospital and explain you are worried and they'll probably book you in for another test.
We did and it was all clear.
We were very relieved and angry at our doctor for frightening us.
Do go for the new test and dont worry.0 -
I am booked in for another test at 9.30 on wed morning, it's not fun really. I think I am going to take an walkman and hold on very tightly to my husbands arm. He was away last week and my friend had to go with me.
This time last week I was oblivious to this.
It's not good, with my first pregnancy I think I was in cloud cookoo land and didn't realise any of this stuff could happen to me.Oh....I'm not going to lie to you......At the end of the day, when alls said and done......do you know what I mean.........TIDY0 -

I was in the same position please DO NOT be too anxious I was 35 years old when I got pregnant for the first time age do make a difference to these tests and the outcome to the reading. My best friend is a midwife and she offer me a lot of support. My amnio was fine and my adorable son is now 7 with a 5 year in tow. How old are you? Age do not do in favour to the triple test?

I'm 25 weeks pregnant with number 3 - not exactly planned (we sold most of our baby stuff last year!! ) but pleased!!!
Congratulatons! and congratualtions to everyone who's recently pregnant too!!!
There are a fair few of us here on baby no 3! (and there was me thinking that I was in a minority :rotfl:).....we must all be crazy :j"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
I considered an amnio with my secon as the risks were higher than average, but I decided I would keep the baby regardless of the result and therefore didn't go ahead (all was fine), so I suppose it depends on what your decision would be .....?0

I had my Daughter in 1995 after 6 years of unexplained infertility, so when I became pregnant, I wasn't too sure of my dates. I seemed to have very little say in the matter and the hospital went ahead and did the triple screening test despite telling me it was only accurate if my dates were. It came back as being 1:8, I received the phone call at work saying I had 3 options, an amnio, a termination or wait and see. (the Dr actually got reprimanded for taking this action and informing me of this in this manner).
I opted for the amnio, the consultant who did it was fantastic, he sprayed me with ice gel, covered me with ice (to keep the baby still) and the whole thing was over and done with within 15 mins.
The worst bit was the 3 weeks waiting time, though I gather the results come back quicker now. The results came back clear, and after I had my Daughter, who was 3 weeks late, the consultant told me I shouldn't have had the TST as my dates were wrong. For my second pregnancy, I didn't have the blood test, but a nuchal scan at 10 weeks.
I am sure it will all be fine, you will worry, but this is natural."Dogs come when they are called. Cats take a message and get back to you" :j :j0 -
What a nightmare for you.
As dazzieboo says, the blood test can be inaccurate. A friend of mine had results of 1:36, but chose to 'wait and see' - she now has a perfect daughter! However, a friend of hers had 'normal' results (1:400?), but her daughter was born with Down Syndrome.
Seems daft them performing the test and causing all that worry if it's not accurate either way."No matter how little money and how few possesions you own, having a dog makes you rich." - Louis Sabin0
