Well done Snaggles! :T Send us a pic, go on go on go on! 2 hours ... now that's what I'm talking about!

Good luck to SeptemberBaby - you'll enjoy it once you're there, I hope it puts your mind at rest. It's so amazing seeing what's changed in the 8 weeks between scans.

Agutka, I totally feel your pain but in my case it's my MIL. She's been unwell for a long time and hasn't got back to work yet so don't think she'll want to until baby's arrived. First grandchild for her so she's really excited, and she's been waiting for such a long time. And she's totally lovely, really! But there's no WAY I could handle having her staying here, cooking and cleaning and doing my laundry ... I'm not houseproud but I do feel odd about having someone else do that stuff for me:confused: . I've given OH strict instructions that she may be phoned once we're on our way into hospital but as she's 5 hours away it's insanity to have her staying 'just in case' - can you imagine how miserable it would be, waiting for labour to start, fat, hot, stressed, uncomfy and tired, and having you MIL jumping out of her seat everytime you blink ...? *shudder*

My own mum's brilliant - first grandchild for her too but she's been so fantastically cool about it. She didn't have a mum to help her, so I have no idea how she managed without much support, but she did it and I know she'll be there for me with just enough help but not too much. I'm hoping she'll be allowed to be there when I'm in labour because I'm a Mummy's girl and I'll be howling for her if she isn't!:o

As for poor hippychick1, I can't imagine how you must be feeling. I definitely think you should set up a demo outside his work HQ and chain yourself to something heavy and chant lots. I really hope it works out for you :grouphug:

My mum is planning on having a week with us when baby arrives, her work have allowed her to semi book 3 different weeks off and then take the neccessary one off. We live about 200 miles away so will take a while for her to get here so should have the 1st day to ourselves. However my mum is brillant and has said she is just going to keep the house running and not interfere with baby (yeah right-1st grandchild, she'll be cooing I'm sure). At least with my Mum I can ask her to do things/go shopping/leave me in peace without feeling too guilty. I'm looking forward to her being her and at least when I have a first time mum panic she'll tell me to stop being stupid and its normal! Baby is due on 19th August and now the nursery is looking more like one and less like a bomb site I'm starting to get broody and want baby here soon!

Well, everything is just fine with baby! Everything they check for was noted as NAD (No Abnormality Detected) - I could have hugged the sonographer! The flip side was that baby is a wriggler and would not keep still for 'his' photograph, much to my disappointment! My 10 week pic looks more like a baby  And she could not be sure of the sex so I guess thats mother natures way of telling me to wait until 'the day'! However, MIL has offered to pay for a 4D vanity scan. Has anyone had one or is considering?

Thanks for all your words of support. xxx

    EDIT: Congratulations Snaggles! x

    Hello everybody :hello:

I'm not sure if I can officially join you yet, but I did a pregnancy test a couple of hours ago and got a big thick pink line - positive :j

I'm very excited, but also scared as this is my first pregnancy. I don't feel pregnant at all, and don't really have any symptoms (except my boobs are a bit sore).

Can anyone tell me what I need to do now?
I'm going to do another test in the morning, and if that's positive then I'll go to the doctors to confirm it. Will they do a blood test or anything?

Also - is there anything I need to be doing or not doing? I don't have a clue.

hi yorkshirechick - congrats if it's positive then it's positive (although I think most of us do more than one test just to help check ;) )

You'll need to make an appointment with your GP at some point to get into the system but s/he will just refer you to the midwife and is unlikely to do any testing - home kits are very accurate. If you know the date of your last period then you can work out the due date and what week you're in. Lots of sites have due date calculators including the BBC. You may get an appointment with the midwife at around 10 weeks for your booking in or just a scan at 12 weeks and then a midwife appointment. If your PCT don't offer a 12 week scan (ask around) then be very vague on your last period and you'll get a dating scan that way. Otherwise you'll be left alone a lot to just get on with it.

As for what you should be doing - take folic acid (either in a pregnancy multivit or the cheaper option is just folic acid). Avoid alcohol and smoke. And don't worry too much about anything else...

    Hi Yorkshire,

You sound like me on Monday (when I took my test). Apparently those tests are so accurate, unless you are taking fertility drugs that contain the hormone HCG, then if it comes out positive you are def pregnant. My doctor didn't bother to do another test, he just referred me straight over to the midwife.

I don't really feel pregnant, just very tired and am getting a nit of nausea.

You need to be taking folic acid, that was the first thing dr told me. Also there are some foods you need to avoid - soft or smelly cheese, Pate, Liver, uncooked egg (or where the yolk is still runny), undercooked meat, shellfish, peanuts, unpasturised milk, swordfish, shark, marlin and fresh tuna steaks.

Also if you have cats you are supposed to avoid their feaces.

Think that was all my doctor said was important to start with. (Oh, as well as the obvious, don't smoke or drink, and don't take any medication without checking with your doctor/pharmacist first).

BTW, Congratulations. I know what you mean. I am scared and excited and daunted, don't really know what I am feeling half the time!!

    Good Luck with everything.

    Hiya Nadnad

We are next to each other on the EDD list. Congratulations, and welcome to the second trimester. I have to admit that I too feel much better than I did. I don't feel like a zombie anymore, and although I am still having MS, it seems to have settled to just in the morning, and then a few rentches during the day.

Can't really advise on the pains, maybe sciatia (sp?) or SPD ? Normal or not, if it is very painful, I would contact my GP, who might be able to prescribe something. I am sure someone will be along soon, who can really tell you if this is very normal.

Glad to hear that your scan was a success. What were you so scared about ? If you aren't feeling baby already, I am sure it won't be long.

I would love to have a 4D scan, but it isn't to be.

    Best of luck
