Hi there
I was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice....I am 38 weeks and have been having contractions for 3 days every 20 mins and then every night i have an hour of 3 minute ones with a strong urge to push.....but as soon as i get on my way to the hospital it all stops.
The hospital is over 40 mins away and i dont know if it worth going in yet.
Why does it keep stopping?
should i phone a midwife for advice...I dont want to seem too panicky.
any help would be great
thanksI MAY HAVE NOTHING.....BUT ITS MY NOTHING0 -

This sounds similar to my situation with my first daughter who was in such a weird position with her head tipped right back, that she got wedged in my pelvis and wouldn't come out. The contractions were getting stronger and stronger but she wasn't descending and I got so knackered after 3 days of contractions that I ended up with an emergency section - I couldn't take any more and she started to get distressed. I did actually go to hospital twice, but got sent home both times - it was only when they came to do the section that they could see what a strange position she was in and why my labour wouldn't progress.
Of course, it could be that yours are just the normal braxton hicks practice ones, only you know the severity of them - although I'd say the urge to push thing is a bit unusual. If I were you, I would give the midwife a ring and see what she suggests. She may suggest a trip to hospital to listen into baby to make sure that they are quite happy in there. Are you still feeling baby move as usual?0 -
thanks for that..
the baby is moving a lot more than usual between contractions.I MAY HAVE NOTHING.....BUT ITS MY NOTHING0 -

I had a vaguely similar thing with DS. My waters broke, and I was having contractions which felt strong to me (no urge to push though), but every time I went into hospital, the contractions slowed down and weren't strong enough for anything to happen. I got sent home three times.
It was horrible as they never actually stopped, just slowed down and then picked up again, yet I wasn't getting anywhere. I had to be induced eventually, after 36 hours, due to risk of infection from the waters breaking.
So I really sympathise, and I reckon you should phone the midwife, see what she says. That's what they're there for!
Good luck - we'll be thinking of you. Let us know when the little one decides to arrive - hopefully soon!0 -
I've got a stupid question.
Do nappies have a shelf life? Do they ever 'go off', IYKWIM? Like become less absorbent or something?
The reason I'm asking is I've bought a huge box of Pampers and they're a size 4. (I was getting an excellent deal from Tesco, with loads of extra points etc.) Now I'm wondering whether to go back and exchange them for a size 1 and 2, or keep them.
Size 4 is 7kg onwards, and DS was 7kg at 15 weeks (a right little porker :rotfl:) so if this one is going to be the same size, I'd have to keep the nappies for about 9 months.
I know I should know this as I've had a child in nappies, but I've never kept them for months.0 -

Hi Dormouse, I'm pretty sure that if you keep them sealed in the packet and in a cool dry place they'll be okay. I work for a supermarket and we have boxes of nappies out the back that are there for ages before they go on sale. They took my signature away!!!!0 -

Somebody please tell me I'm not the only one eating like a horse...
I'm absolutely starving these days and food seems to be my number one priority. It doesn't help that the babe, being a typical bloke, perks up at breakfast/lunch/dinnertime and kicks like mad, making sure I don't forget to eat (as if!!!) :rotfl:
I've been having two lunches recently (the perks of working from home). Although it's reasonably healthy stuff that I eat, I can't help thinking I'll be enormous by August...
I'm absolutely ravenous all day long!
I went on a long train journey last week and took a packed lunch with me... I ended up scoffing the lot by 8am!I bet the other passengers thought I was really greedy.
I've only just realised that I've been putting loads of weight on my backside as well. I thought my bump was all 'out front'!

They should be fine unopened in the packet. They would only be less effective if they were opened and even then, I would imagine, they would be okay for several months.
I've got a full (unopened) pack left over from my son up in the loft. I was too tight to give them away even though he's four and a half.I'll still use them on the new baby!
