  • Hi Incognitio, I get the cramp pains every few days or so and scare myself to death that the pregnancy is bound to be all over as, basically, I can't believe I'm 17 weeks pregnant!

I did have a M/C last year so I'm very easily scared by every single niggle but unless the cramps are really painful and there is bleeding then I'm sure its nothing to worry about. Maybe you could mention it when you next see your MW for your own reassurance? (even if she does get on your nerves!).

    Good luck and congratulations! x

blimey I feel like a right mean mum - the room that is currently my study will become the nursery. It has cream coloured walls and a wooden floor so I'm not decorating - I will put pictures up and a new blind eventually but as baby will be in our room for the first few months and what's suitable for a baby isn't for an older child I'm not intending on doing anything else to decorate the room... this poor child with his hand-me-downs and boring room  :rotfl:

Justie, I'm with you, we have bought furniture (wardrobe and will have a cotbed soon) for the room, but we aren't decorating it its has cream walls and carpet and doesn't need doing. The house is quite new and the room as never really been used by us or the previous owners so why bother decorating it until we know whether we are having a boy or girl. Its not like the baby can see the decoration of the room until they are older. We are still putting hand painted canvases up to "break" the walls up a bit, but these are being doing by a friend so have only cost us £10 for the 4 canvases.

We've had a moses basket, steam steriliser, bottles and baby monitor off ebay along with some sleeping bags and clothes (all 2nd hand) trying to save money wherever we can, even though we have had money given to us by DH parents we thought be try to be a frugal as possible as then baby is never going to stop needing things!! :rotfl:

incognito. I had period cramps with all of my pregnancies sometimes very uncomfortable. I often get shooting pain in groin and have spoken to mw who reassures that it is down to stretching of ligaments. If in doubt give them a call, they are there to help and hopefully reassure you.

just to say a huge thanks to everyone for the reassurance about the cramps. i hadnt been that worried but the last couple of days have been pretty bad and i dont really have any pregnant friends to ask. it is funny, i get stressed about the cramps but then if i have a couple of days respite then i really worry - i just cant win!!!

Somebody please tell me I'm not the only one eating like a horse... :o

I'm absolutely starving these days and food seems to be my number one priority. It doesn't help that the babe, being a typical bloke, perks up at breakfast/lunch/dinnertime and kicks like mad, making sure I don't forget to eat (as if!!!) :rotfl:

I've been having two lunches recently (the perks of working from home) :o. Although it's reasonably healthy stuff that I eat, I can't help thinking I'll be enormous by August...

I'm with you. I've never eaten so much in the space of one day as I have since I've been pregnant and only in the last 2 to 3 weeks. My appetite has just kicked big time, but wonder how much is due to the amount of sickness I had at the beginning and am still getting once a week.

Yeah, I am just about to go and make my second lunch too.

I can't stop eating either, and it definitely helps the nausea. I know that I am not going to feel better until I have eaten.

Seems I am into marmite on toast again.

I wonder if it's a boy thing mine really perks up at meal times too! I tend to do 2 breakfasts rather than 2 lunches but I'm definitely eating more at the moment but that's good as I lost a fair bit in the first trimester so I've only put on a few pounds in total since becoming pg (sorry maybe not what you wanted to hear :D )

Dormouse is right apart from that bit! If you have a small earnings exemption certificate and are not paying NI, you'll only get £27 a week in MA.

It's worth paying the £2.20 a week NI and sending back the certificate as you get full MA regardless of what you earn. It's currently £112.75 a week for 9 months.

Thanks Dormouse and Becles that was fantastic explanation! One question then, I don't suppose you know how many weeks I'd have to pay NI for by how many weeks pregnant? Basically so I can plan when I need to start paying NI (and save a bit of money!)
