Like you I started taking pregnacare tablets before I was pregnant!! As I wanted my body to have all the correct vitamins for when I actually became pregnant.
I recently saw the new ones you are talking about and like you I started thinking!! But in the end I couldnt take them as I am a muslim I cant take anything with animal gelatine in it. I spoke to my midwife and she advised that pumpkin seeds or having an oily fish salmon (not more than once a week) would help baby!
you could have a look in your local health food shop and see if they have UDOs oil which has the omegas in and is a liquid so no gelatin although it's not cheap.

I'm not working at present (post grad student) and 21 wks pg - is it any use me paying NI now to try and get some benefit? I thought I couldn't claim anything without working a certain number of hours for 16 weeks before a certain stage of pg but maybe I'm wrong...

You need to register as self employed to pay Class 2 NI, which qualifies you for MA.

You can pay voluntary NI if you are not working but I'm not sure if this entitles you to MA or not.

  • I had my 20 week scan on tuesday last week (only just had time to post!) and although I was 21 weeks 1 day at the time baby was measuring for 22 weeks 1 day so lets hope little one slows down a bit otherwise I'm in for some pain!!

Baby is already a true MSE-er, it showed everything the scanner person needed to see but was head down and showing off its back, so didn't get to see face etc. So didn't bother with a picture and saved £3!

Was painting the nursery at the weekend and have painted it a lemon colour but now can't decide what colour carpet to put down, any ideas? We're having a winnie the pooh theme, so have got the border and some stickers to put up. Looked at the wallpaper and it was £10 a roll, it would have cost more to paper that room than our master bedroom!!

We're painting the walls yellow too with Peter Rabbit stickers, and the bedding, curtains etc are yellow and blue. Going looking for either a blue or biscuit colour carpet.

To be honest, I would get a very cheap carpet, or a remnant. It's probably going to get covered in poo, sick and wee, so buy cheap now and expect to replace it in a few years.

blimey I feel like a right mean mum - the room that is currently my study will become the nursery. It has cream coloured walls and a wooden floor so I'm not decorating - I will put pictures up and a new blind eventually but as baby will be in our room for the first few months and what's suitable for a baby isn't for an older child I'm not intending on doing anything else to decorate the room... this poor child with his hand-me-downs and boring room  :rotfl:

:rotfl: :rotfl: You're describing all our carpets - courtesy of the dog. But we're not replacing :p. I'm aiming at an EXTREMELY germ-resistant baby.

I didn't know this, as he only mentioned it to my Mum in passing, but Hubby is planning on painting Pooh characters on the walls freehand!

i am looking for a bit of reassurance....i am 14+2 and from very early in the pregnancy i have had stomach cramps. at the moment i get them most days first thing in the morning and again about tea time/early evening and i have put them down to things stretching and moving into place. i seem to get 2 kinds, the period cramp type and another sharper kind which can go from about 2 inches below my belly button right into my groin. i havent had any bleeding at all throughout the pregnancy so far, my 12 week scan was fine and i am still getting fatter so i presume that everything is ok. i spoke to my sister about it as she has just had her second baby and she didnt have any stomach pains at all and my midwife was worse than useless! i know that some cramping is normal but has anyone else had it this consistently??
The names have been changed to protect the innocent!
  • Hi incognito,

I had mild period pain cramps probably up to about 20 weeks (can't remember exactly).

I also had sharper more specific pain in areas (mine was in groin), which was put down to being round ligament pain, after a visit to a supportive GP. I felt confidence in this diagnosis and rest and some slightly stronger prescription medication sorted it out. I also used a bump support belt as I normally got it after doing more. Baths are always good too.

I don't know what your pain is, but early pregnancy does have some unexpected surprizes (this is my first pregnancy), which take some getting used to. Could you see a different GP/midwife? You will always be more reassured once they check babies heartbeat and your BP.

Try to relax (mmmm???) difficult I know. Also, think about it logically, your body is changing RAPIDLY to accomodate baby so some stretching etc will be inevitable. HTH.

It all sounds pretty normal to me, although obviously I'm not a professional.

The second type of cramp sounds like ligament pain, and is nothing to worry about. As for the period-type cramps, I still get them very occasionally, although they don't usually last long at all.

Your scan was fine, so I don't think you have anything to worry about. :)
