    Hello,

I have been off work due to work related stress and I think i'm going to be made redundant shortly/paid off! Anyway i've found out that I'm 9 weeks pregnant, would i be entitled to anything? Maternity payments etc. It's a horrible thought having to apply for jobs knowing that i'm going to be showing shortly, obviously i will have to tell them i'm pregnant!
Any ideas what i could claim?

It's a shame really as i was 10 years at my last job so would have been entitled to a lot of maternity pay!!

  • I have another of my stupid 1st time mum questions for you all: I keep getting a stitch like feeling in my lower stomach (below belly button but above hair, if you know what I mean!) Its usually after I've been walking around the office/high street etc, is this something I should worry about?

All that suffering out there! Please tell me your body eventually gets back to normal? So pain means pain and tummy ache means food poisoning? I couldn't cope with these symptoms for the rest of my life!

I'm at 14 weeks now and am wondering if I am the only one not sleeping through the night. I have managed to only a few times since I got pregnant! I wake up at least once and it's getting really annoying. I thought it was due to the peeing thing, but don't really need to anymore...

Also, do I have an actual cold or is this yet another symptom?

    Hi
Sorry to hear your poorly at this exciting time..
If you wanted to get maternity payments by your employer you must tell them you are pregnant as its harder for them to make you redundant however if you will get a big redundancy payout it may be worth it..?
do you know how much you would be entitled to?
is it statuory which is 1 weeks pay for every year you have been there ?
you will qualify for Maternity payments from the govenment which is £112.75 per week if you are not working..
Check some of the other forums out on what your entitlement would be..think the benefits one would be most helpful if you are planning on not returning to work..
try to think about whats best for the baby now anway
    good luck

    Nothing to worry about, normal!

I used to get exactly the same thing walking to the station in the morning. Hubby always used to be chivvying me along as we were usually running late and I'd get slower and slower as the stitch got more and more intense. We missed quite a few trains :rotfl:(no chance I'd get up any earlier ;))!

Things do get back to normal..promise..!!
You prob do have a cold due to the change in temp outside..and the fact that the baby is taking anything good from you leaving you rundown!!
get some rest and dont over do it!
I have had severe heartburn..to the point where i wake up 2-3 times a night eating rennies!!
i have stashes of them everywhere car, handbag, sofa!!!
at least im due on the 9th so not long hopefully now!
but then i ahve to endure the pain after birth..like peeing glass..!! but at least i will have something to show for it..makes it all worth while!

It's one of my top 'things they didn't tell you about pregnancy' gripes - I knew I wouldn't sleep much after it was born but I wasn't warned about before... If I sleep for 4 hours straight I'm doing well and often even though I'm exhausted I lie there unable to sleep. And yes the peeing makes it worse but it's not just that...

You do get a sniffly nose with pregnancy so it could be that or you could have a cold, or it could be hay fever...

You sound perfectly normal to me!

I've had all sorts of odd aches and pains in my tummy, back, hips and legs. It's just your body changing shape and getting used to carrying the extra weight. If it's just a niggle, it's probably nothing to worry about, but do get checked out if the pain is unbearable or you get other symptoms like sudden swelling or bleeding.

I've only had a few full nights sleeps since I became pregnant. I'm usually up twice in the night for a wee. Often I've woken with pain in my ribs due to my little monkey trying to poke her feet in there. Sometimes I get heartburn/indigestion, sometimes it's leg cramps, sometimes it's SPD pain, sometimes it's nausea, and now I'm uncomfortable just because I'm so big!

I've had a stuffy nose, but my GP said that pregnancy hormones can irritate your nose lining. There's not a lot you can do for it really other than put up with it.

And then when you've got baby in your arms and your body is back to normal, you'll look back and remember how lovely pregnancy was, and how you glowed, and you'll forget all the niggly things till next time!
Here I go again on my own....

Thanks for your reply, yeah it's not nice being depressed and pregnant. I'm normally a happy person but not right now.

To be honest i'm getting made redundant due to 'changes within the department' but I reckon it's because i'm a part time working Mum. But very difficult to prove! I think i'll just get the basic redundancy payment but i have a Solicitor involved to help me and the Company is paying for the fees (their idea).

I've had a look around and i'm entitled to MA like you said £112 per week which is fine until i find another job after the baby is born.

    Thanks for your help
