Hello all the new joiners  Wow it's hard to keep up.
Chef that all sounds very scary but I'm sure you'll both be very happy when your LO is safely delivered and all the rest of it will be put in perspective. At least you can prepare yourselves properly. I did get a bit  when you said your wife would need to be put to sleep though :rotfl:0 -

Hello all,
Thought I'd better get round to adding myself to the list - been lurking a while but wondered if anyone could help me handle a potentially delicate situation!
We had a visit from my in-laws on sat, MIL,FIL and SIL - the thing is as they were leaving my SIL announced that she has arranged to take time off work when the babe arrives so she can come and help me!
Now before you all start thinking I'll be grateful for the help she lives 100 miles away and so is expecting to stay and we only have a small house, also I suspect that her idea of helping is to cuddle and coo over the baby and not help with the things which would be useful eg housework, cooking etc. OH is taking 2 weeks paternity leave so it's not as if I'll be on my own.
How can I politely ask her just to visit? Any thoughts greatly appreciated!it's not having what you want - it's wanting what you've got0 -
Congratulations Sarah, good luck for tomorrow. I had bad morning sickness this time around and was extremely tired at first, but people kept telling me 'a sick pregnancy is a healthly pregnancy'! I'm 32, I was 26 the first time, and I can honestly say it has been much harder this time around. But I'm in a bad mood today (see above grumpy post lol) - if you'd caught me on another day I would have probably said it's better being a more relaxed, more experienced, slightly older Mum!
PS Do you have twins in the family??
Hi Snaggles, my mum is a twin so I'm really anxious. Don't know how I'd cope with 5 kids, (already have three)!!! I'm looking forward to being a mum again as you say its a nicer feeling being more experienced.
Lol I'm supposed to have a full bladder for my appointment in an hour and all I've done is run to the toilet all morning - I can't hold water!!!
Will let you all know how the scan goes when I return. They took my signature away!!!!0 -

and suggest if she wants to help that at least to wait till OH has gone back to work and here's a very good local B&B0 -

I have the exact same prospect looming with OH's family and even some friends - when OH said to his mate "We're really just hoping for some time and space when baby arrives", his mate replied by telling him he wouldn't even consider imposing on us like that and would be staying in a local B&B (with his missus and between them 4 kids!) - I personally don't mind if I don't see his mates til baby's 6 month's old, but what can you do?! I'm not the most social of people anyway and even the idea of OH's lovely mum coming to stay is overwhelming - I like things done MY way at home, and don't even feel happy with someone else fussing over my laundry.
I think the angle we're going to take with close family is that they'd be welcome to visit but to hold off until baby arrives and we're settled, using the ploy that I'll appreciate any help so much more once the midwife visits have stopped/OH is back to work etc. With less close family and friends I'm prepared to be blunt - I don't want to have to endure the pain and strife of half my insides falling out and then be expected to deal with visitors AND a breastfeeding newborn on a daily basis. If people don't take the hint then I'm going to clearly state that attendance is by invitation only and we'll be in touch ...!
If you get on OK with your SIL then maybe ask her to put her visit off until everything's settled down, because I'm sure once the initial flurry is over it might be quite lonely at home with baby and by that stage you might appreciate the company.0 -
Hi Eels
Feel much better now knowing I'm not the only one in this situation!
Like you I do like things done My Way but am very conscious that I'm not the most fav person in my in-laws life so I try not to rock the boat too much - it's envisaging her arriving the minute I get home from the hospital or worse being here waiting for me when I arrive home full of stitches and with leaking b**bs!
Think I'll just save up all the really stinky nappies for her to wash!;) then perhaps she won't stick around for too long!
OH is going down to see them this weekend - I don't have to go as getting a bit close to my dates etc - I will get him to speak to her.it's not having what you want - it's wanting what you've got0 -
I'm 32, I was 26 the first time, and I can honestly say it has been much harder this time around.
Also another reason is that I'm quite a bit heavier now than in my first pregnancy - I weighed myself the other day only to find out that now, at 16 weeks I weigh the same as I did at 37 weeks with DS. (I used breastfeeding as a bit of an excuse to indulge in cream cakes) That's got to have an effect on things like fatigue and water retention in my legs and ankles.
But of course, even though we are a little bit older, we are also a lot wiser, so it's not all bad0 -

I agree, let your OH talk to her.Make up some excuse why it's not a good idea for her to come to stay so early on, or just tell her that there's no point as your OH is going to be there!
It's always tricky when people come to stay with you when you've got a newborn, as I find they're usually more of a nuisance than a help.Maybe it's just me, but I would prefer it if people just visited and then went away - unfortunately that's not always possible when people live far away. I sympathise completely.
