I too have chosen an irish name for our little boy..malachi..said mal-a-kye
we have had a preety mixed response on the name ..but i dont care..its not like i have chosen to call him moon-face or some other such name!
cant please everyone so just pleasing ourselves..(my grandad is called victor..dont think so!):rotfl: :rotfl:
and just so you know (it's totally up to you how you pronounce it but I'm just telling you the differences) if you want to do it the Irish way it'd be MAL-a'key - with the stress on the first syllable and a soft ending - more than mal-A-KYE - with an unstressed first syllable, although mal-a-kye is the more traditional/biblical way or pronouncing it... (sorry hard to explain it but Irish tends to put the stress on the beginning of the word whereas English puts it on the second... so Marie is pronounced Marry in Irish IYSWIM)
and congrats nadnad it's good to have you onboard0 -

My son's Name is Malachi Joshua. We chose the name because it's biblical and Malachi means Angel in Arabic which I thought was nice. It wasn't very popular when we first choose it but everyone loves it now and I get stranger walking up to me and saying what a wonderful name.0 -
Boots are doing 3 for 2 on maternity pads, slim maternity pads, nursing pad, disposable mats, and disposable briefs.
I've been told by a few people that there range is much better than mothercares so I'm gonna give them ago.0 -
Oh Becles *hugs*
Of course it's normal to be feeling the way you do when you've got all those things going on.
It's hard when you're disagreeing with your mum over something so big, but it is your decision and your baby. I find a lot of ladies of a certain age (my mum's age) do still have quite old-fashioned ideas about childbirth etc, as things were very different back in the 70s or whenever. It's unfair to be putting all this pressure on you, especially since you feel so strongly about your decision. Mums want what's best for us, but they have a funny way of showing that sometimes
And of course your little boy can be there if he wants to - I don't see anything wrong with that as long as he's aware of what's going to happen.
And don't get me started on frumpiness! I feel so fat and frumpy and I'm obviously going to get so much bigger still... But I bet other people think we are glowing and gorgeous0 -
Is anyone else feeling weepy and struggling to cope.
I'm getting pressure of my Mam as she disagrees with home births, so she just calls me stupid and selfish for wanting one instead of supporting me. She also thinks my youngest son should not be present at the birth, but he wants to be there and we'd like him to be there.
I'm tired and in pain with the SPD and being diagnosed as anaemic, so sometimes work is a struggle. I'm on iron tablets now, but they've upset my tummy. I've lost my appertite and I've got hellish wind and my bowels are all over the place - sorry if TMI! I'm also full of cold, and as you know I can't take anything for it.
My ex is being an idiot over child maintenance money and other issues.
I'm huge but can't afford to buy new clothes, especially as I'm not going to be in them much longer. I'm sick of wearing the same odd things that still fit, and raiding hubby's t-shirt drawer. I just feel frumpy. Also my feet have swollen up, so all I can fit into is trainers and I'm sick to death of wearing them.
Yesterday I had a disagreement with someone and it's just tipped me over the edge. I've been weepy ever since, and I just feel like I can't cope anymore.
Is this normal and how can I stop myself from feeling so down?
Do you have any friends who have just had a baby and may be able to lend you some maternity clothes? I was feeling really drab as I always seemed to be wearing the same outfits which were generally grey/black/cream but then my friend lent me her maternity clothes and I was amazed how much better I felt.
I was given iron tablets a few weeks ago and started on 2 a day ( rather than recommended 3) as I knew it could make the stuff that comes out the other end a bit on the solid side. I ended up going down to one every other day and then went up to one every day and seem to fine so am planning to increase back up to two a day next week. I think perhaps your body needs time to adjust gradually to things like this as I once read somewhere that if you need to increase your fibre intake you should do it gradually rather than all in one go otherwise you can get the runs. Hopefully the iron tablets will help with your tiredness - I found I felt less tired after about a week even though I'm not taking the full dose. I'm still sleeping about 12 hours a day but don't feel unbearably exhausted when I am awake.
I've just had a cold and found the biggest problem was being able to breath at night in order to get to sleep. (Normally I would just sleep on my back as this seems to help but obviously can't at the moment.) Our pharmacist recommended Vicks Vaporub and I found it really helped as it meant I was actually able to sleep despite the cold so would definitely recommend it.
As long as the professionals think that it is fine for you to have a home birth, I can't see anything wrong with it so don't let anyone make you feel bad about it. After all, it's your birth not theirs and I imagine you have not critcised their birth choices so they should not criticise yours.
Hope some of what I've said is helpful (sorry it's a bit rambling) and hopefully the iron tablets will kick in and make you less tired as things always seem so much worse if you are tired.0 -
Hugs for Becles, and congratulations nad nad
I saw some Tommee Tippee 'Freedom' hand pumps in Huddersfield Home Bargains today for £5.99.The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0 -

Best wishes, Becles. I think most people go through a bit of a rough patch at some point during pregnancy. Make sure OH and the kids make a fuss of you tomorrow for Mother's Day.
I'm hoping for a home birth this time around. My Mum actually had me at home - so she's quite pleased that I'm planning one. OH has reservations though...
As for the iron tablets...they didn't agree with me either and I stopped taking them.If they are going straight through your system and upsetting your digestion they're probably not doing you much good!
I switched to eating loads of fortified food (four weetabix a day!!) and started taking pregnancy multi-vits again. There's also Floradix (sp?) which is a liquid form and supposed to be easier on the stomach. Perhaps worth a try?

Thanks for the good wishes.
I'm on 3 x 200mg iron tablets a day, so have been taking them with breakfast, lunch and dinner. I already eat Fruit & Fibre for breakfast as I've got IBS (which has been brill while pregnant - lol), and a friend said to drink fresh orange juice as the vit C helps absorb the iron. The midwife is visiting me at home on Monday to do my birth plan, so will talk to her about the other iron options.
My iron level was 10.1 when it was measured, and if it falls below 10 I've been told I'm not allowed a home birth in case I haemorrage. However, I've always had low iron levels - eg: can't give blood as I always fail the finger !!!!! test. I personally think I am normal for me. My blood pressure is always lower than normal too. Started off at 90/60 and has only gone up to 100/70, which is still lower than many non-pregnant people!
None of my friends are pregnant. They're all Mam's of my sons friends who are 10 and 8, and everyone is sort of finished all the baby stuff.
Don't know what to do with Mam. If I do anything she disagrees with, she just makes nasty comments until I come round to her way of thinking. I'm an adult though and able to make my own decisions and feel she should support me regardless of if she agrees or not. Here I go again on my own....0 -
I'm now 17 weeks gone and getting exicited as I'm sure I could feel little movements last night, still could be wind!

Lo all, my wife is expecting our first baby on 10th May 2007. After trying for 2 and a half years she finally fell pregnant. She was given 6 pills to take and if they hadn't of worked she would of then had to of had a laporoskepy (sorry probably spelt wrong). She fell pregnant after the 5th pill \o/
Things havn't gone as smoothly as we had of hoped though and we have to go back for a fourth scan 2 weeks monday. The reason is she has a low-lying placenta and its blocking the birth canel. It's 50/50 that it will move the 2cm needed so she can give a natural birth but at the 3rd scan the doc came in and gave us the no BS answer that if it hasn't moved she may have to be put to sleep so they can take the baby out and i won't be allowed inObviously she is gutted as A: she wants to give birth naturally and actually be awake when it happens, and B: wants me there to share the experience.
So right now we're just trying to plod along as usual with me using the other forums on here to free up the finances so when we go down to just my pay we arn't left feeding the baby from the gutter.
As for the sex, we don't want to know until its bornalthough i needed persuasing a while back. Glad i did though as i now know it was the right thing as it's gonna be one of the best surprises i'll ever get.
Congrats to everyone in our list and good luck to everyone in the other.0
