AFAIK, they can't enforce any minimum length of stay on a patient (obviously unless there was a clear risk to the baby.) Perhaps individual hospitals have their own 'guidelines' but I don't see how they could enforce them if you and baby were fit and well and wanted to go home. Short of sectioning you! :eek:

Just thought I'd point out Boots is selling its own brand newborn disposable nappies for £1.94 (or something like that) at the moment.

It's roughly the same price as Asda and Tescos' own brands but it's handy for those that have built up stacks of points on their Advantage cards from Triple points days - I'll essentially be getting free nappies for a while - at least till Eleanor's big enough to fit into the washables I want to put her in

PS, plus remember it's triple points on Boots.com till Tuesday and in stores this weekend if you spend over £15

Is anyone else feeling weepy and struggling to cope.

I'm getting pressure of my Mam as she disagrees with home births, so she just calls me stupid and selfish for wanting one instead of supporting me. She also thinks my youngest son should not be present at the birth, but he wants to be there and we'd like him to be there.

I'm tired and in pain with the SPD and being diagnosed as anaemic, so sometimes work is a struggle. I'm on iron tablets now, but they've upset my tummy. I've lost my appertite and I've got hellish wind and my bowels are all over the place - sorry if TMI! I'm also full of cold, and as you know I can't take anything for it.

My ex is being an idiot over child maintenance money and other issues.

I'm huge but can't afford to buy new clothes, especially as I'm not going to be in them much longer. I'm sick of wearing the same odd things that still fit, and raiding hubby's t-shirt drawer. I just feel frumpy. Also my feet have swollen up, so all I can fit into is trainers and I'm sick to death of wearing them.

Yesterday I had a disagreement with someone and it's just tipped me over the edge. I've been weepy ever since, and I just feel like I can't cope anymore.

Is this normal and how can I stop myself from feeling so down?

It's your baby and you can choose to have whatever birth you want. Your mum is expressing her concerns but obviously doesn't understand that home birth is in general better for both mum and baby. If you're close to a hospital for if it all goes wrong then it's the best of both worlds. Maybe give her some reading about home births so she knows a bit more about them - I think there's a generation of women who see it as going back to the dark ages...

There is a herbal iron supplement that has fewer side effects than iron tablets, I can't remember what it's called I'm afraid but my friend used it in both of her pregnancies when she became anaemic.

Ask on Freecycle for maternity clothes - it's amazing what people have stashed in their lofts

And yes I think it's pretty normal... I'm still at the beginning of my pregnancy but still feel all of those things.

Becles - try taking your iron tablets at night before bed with a glass of water - that way the nausea is while your body is sleeping. Remember to read the PIL for instructions about which foods to avoid for 1-2 hours before taking (and if you have to take more than one a day i'm afraid you need to get ready for some serious constipation!) If your still have trouble talk to your midwife about a product called Spatone
