Hi,
Does anyone have any experiences of giving birth at a midwife-led birth centre? I'm booked into one, because I love the idea of the intimacy of natural birth, but I'm not 100% determined to have natural birth either. I'm still weighing up all the pro's and con's, especially since it's my first baby (my friends and family think I'm mad!) and my sister had a horrendously difficult labour (more than 40 hours, with epidural, etc.) As I approach the 3rd Trimester I'm starting to worry that I won't be able to bear the pain and ordeal of the labour. Would love to hear what you all think about this, either way.

Hi Emma, I had a scan at about 5 weeks + 2 too that was inconclusive. Dr at hospital counted weeks preg from ovulation date not from lmp. All they could see when I went was pregnancy sac too nothing esle. He said they wouldn't expect to see more unless I had got my dates wrong. No other comments were made really except.........take it a bit easier and that bleeding I had could have been caused by anything.
It's horrible isn't it waiting to see. So is your next scan on 23rd as well? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Justie wrote:Hi all just want to pop my head in. I'm about 8 weeks pregnant and really not enjoying it. It's a planned pregnancy but I wasn't at all prepared as I thought it would take a while for us to conceive and it didn't. I'm crying all the time, nauseous and tired after even the slightest exertion. I'm finding it really hard to work (writing up PhD thesis) as my head has gone to mush and I just want to go to bed all the time. All my friends are over the moon for us but I just feel really out of control. I'm also terrified I'm going to lose it so it's not like I don't want this baby I'm just finding it hard to get used to being pregnant. I'm finally being able to eat again after finding it really hard with the nausea, which is helping a bit but I just feel so weird about the whole thing.
Am I the only one to feel like this?
Hi Justie,
you are most certainly not the only one to feel like this.
I had nausea all the time up to 20 weeks and some of the time now.
If I walked up the stairs too quickly I would throw up at the top. I have been sick in :-
a builders skip ,
in B&Q twice,
in Tesco again twice,
in the GP,s garden ( that was his own fault for poking a tongue depressor down my throat)
on myself in the car at least three times,
in a 16 pack of loo roll when I missed the toilet
in the hospital grounds whilst going to see a relative (4 times)
on the toilet floor whilst peeing!
in the road - managed to get car door open while driving.
All the usual remedies had no effect
ginger - burns on the way back up
dry biscuits - stick in your throat on the way back up
sea sickness bands - rubbish
I found it best to eat little and often,
not rush about,
try not to move after eating
avoid certain foods - orange cordial, tomatoes for me.
try not to fret about it, I am usually self motivated and independant, but I had to accept that I felt unable to do much, It really is not forever.
Have a look on the Blooming Awful website, https://www.hyperemesis.org.uk for ladies with excessive vomiting.
Make sure you get help if you start to become dehydrated.
The worst thing was people saying 'the sickness should have stopped by now' and 'I wasn't sick once when I was pregnant' - really helpful:mad:
Do you normally have migraines with vomiting, motion sickness or period pains with vomiting? I have all these and I believe they increase your chance of N&V in pregnancy.
I conceived straight away as well, I thought it might take a while as I am 35, but it happened on my wedding night!

its so confusing
Sorry to hear you didn't get the result you wanted.
It's difficult to tell how old baby will be at this stage, as nobody really knows when you ovulated and concieved.
At the extremes, you could have ovulated just after your last period ended or you could have ovulated just before the next one should have started, or anywhere in between. That could account for the 2 week difference perhaps?
Keeping my fingers crossed that baby is in there, and you'll see something positive next week. Here I go again on my own....0 -

It's great living 5 minutes away from town. With a tiny baby in a sling, you'll be able to manage just fine.
However, what about in a few months time when baby is bigger and heavier? 5 mins can be a long way when you're carrying 1+ stone of wriggly baby, plus baby bag, plus your shopping.
What about using the sling for the first few months, then getting a cheap umbrella buggy? They fold up quite small and I'm sure you'll find it much easier than carrying baby everywhere. Here I go again on my own....0 -

I'm rarely actually throwing up, it's more nausea - although after a week of not upchucking I suddenly did 3 times today and have had to rearrange my day as there was no way I could go out. And I've had to pull the car over a few times too as it's one of the worst times for me (that and supermarket shopping which I've now resorted to doing online, and doing my teeth). I used to get nausea with periods and get motion sickness and have had bad vomiting with migraines so I think I've got off fairly lightly so far with the throwing up, partly because most of the time I've worked out when to eat (or not eat) to avoid the worst of it but sometimes it catches me unawares. I'm feeling less out of control at the moment and just going with the flow but my hormones are all over the place and I'm crying at anything from spilling milk to seeing sick puppies on the tv  I've only exercised once since finding out I was pregnant - just walking up stairs is about all I can manage at the mo  And I have my darling OH keep saying 'are you sure you're pregnant' :rotfl:0 -
6 weeks to go. Fat, fed up and miserable.
Spent the morning at the hospital for glucose intolerance tests and have to go back next week for a scan to see how big this baby is.
3 kids=
1st - 7lb 14
2nd - 8lb 7
3rd - 9lb 13
Can you see where I am going with this big baby thing!
So once they have the results and scan they are going to make a descision about inducing me early or ceasarean instead, but with lots of kids at home already, major surgery isn't really my main priority!
But. I have hit that point where I am fed up and want it finished!0 -
Hi Justie
My nausea would come on unexpectedly as well, one minute I would be OK the next I'd feel really sick. My dog had to move pretty quick once when I bent down to tie my laces. Washing sick off a miniature dachshund would not have been much fun!
I cried at TV adverts - my husband thinks this is hilarious.

I'm only 26 weeks and my belly feels like a boulder.
Did you have a C-section for any of the other babies?

Mine too - had no bump at all for the first 20 weeks - now at 24 weeks and look like I'm ready to give birth! But I've only put on a couple of pounds, and the baby is measuring exactly right for her dates, so it looks like I'm just going to have to live with being a hippopotamus for the next 4 months!"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250
