i have to see the doc today to book my section. I will hopefully be amending my date when I get back. They do them 2 weeks early here so I could have him in 3 weeks time.
I have a thread going in Discussion Time which it occured to me might be useful to some of you ladies. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=350422 It's about how to go about asking people not to visit just after the birth to give you time to recover and get to know your baby. Some very sensible advice and opinions on there.
Re buggies: you can get from newborn buggies that lie flat and have umbrella folds. You might as well wait to see if and when you need one but you probably will at some point. Try out LOTS. There is a huge difference in size and weight and ease of folding. I used to store mine between the cupboard and the wall folded up. Or it doubled as a downstairs crib as that's where he slept for his nap sometimes.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -

hello! This is my first, so I'm just as inexperienced to be honest, but my hubby and I recently saw someone with a Macpac Vamoose. It looked fantastic, especially if you like walks in the country or iinto town, though it might be easier to handle when travelling in pairs. We're planning to at least try one on sometime, they seem to be available in larger outdoor shops.

babitee wrote:While there'll obviously be space for bub and the cot, we'll have to be stringent about what we buy to save space and are considering going without a buggy/pushchair/travel system/pram and sticking to the absolute essentials (cot, car-seat, clothes, etc.). We got an excellent baby sling for Christmas, which should be suitable once baby outgrows the Moses basket (a loaner). And we live near town (5 mins) and parks and green space (across the road).
Are we being too naive/ambitious to go without a pushchair? Comments/experiences/similar stories, good or bad, would be much appreciated.0 -
Just a quick question for those that use slings. I do have one but at the moment don't use it much - use the pushchair instead because of this hideous weather as it only takes a second to put the raincover on and she is kept dry as a bone and protected from the wind. What do you do to protect baby from the elements when they are in a sling?0

Had my scan on Monday - couldn't believe that there was actually a little baby wriggling around in there until we could see it ourselves, it's amazing. I had to pee in a bush
on the way to the hospital as my efforts to fill my bladder turned out to be a little excessive. In spite of this I was still sent to pee again before they could get a decent picture ... it seems my bladder capacity astounded the poor ultrasonographer as much as my kidneys' activity astounded me.
I told everyone at work and was met with the expected stunned gasps, thus reassuring me that I am indeed the least maternal person ever to walk the earth. I hope the things they say about "it all comes naturally" are true, but just in case I think I'll leave my number with the local social services ...

Emma_B, sorry to hear your scan wasn't exactly reassuring and hope you get some better news on your next one.
We are still TTC but DH goes away tomorrow for 2 weeks, he works on an oil rig so is away 2 weeks and then home 2 weeks, I hope he's not missing our fertile times!!
Thanks for the tips on when are the best times for conception but I am having trouble figuring out when I am ovulating as my periods have been pretty irregular since MC last September followed by colposcopy /biopsy in October....I remember in Friends Monica had sticks to wee on which told her when she was ovulating...does anyone know what they are called and if they are expensive?0 -
clear blue are advertsing them, ovualtion kits, on the tv at the moment
they sell them at home bargains (or qulaity save) where we live and are cheaper there..most things are!
http://www.clearblueeasy.com/our_products_digital_ovulation_test_kit.cfm
theres a link on the clear blue ones
i hope i get better news too but im really not hopeful, every1 says try to be positive but im convinced its a missed miscarriage and im already devastated .
good luck TTC make the most of those 2 weeks! x0 -
I've seen ads on the internet for cheap (37p each) ovulation test sticks, but I don't know if they are any good.
Most brands of pregnancy test also make ovulation tests, some are just sticks and others use a monitor and sticks to give an result on an LCD display, they all measure levels of luteinising hormone (LH)
There are other methods such as body temperature fluctuations but you need a very sensitive thermometer as the variations are quite slight. a dip of about 0.5 of a degree the day before you ovulate followed by a slight rise on ovulation. Other factors can affect your temperature so this method may be unreliable.
Cervical mucous viscocity, which sounds messy to me, but you check every day for thicker secretions ( like egg white) those are the most fertile days.
counting days - discussed a lot on the site, but no good if you are very irregular.
Making sure you have an orgasm ( am I allowed to put that?) is supposed to help, as the cervix actively takes up the semen.
OH wearing boxers rather than briefs, to prevent overheating is supposed to help as well. Ice packs are NOT recommended though!
The 'you are what you eat' woman recommends zinc rich foods to aid fertility, especially for men.
