Has anyone been suffering with headaches? Have had one for past couple of days on and off. I'm 14 weeks and 3 days. Don't think its caffeine or sugar withdrawal as not changed how much I take.

    Thanks

    Hi rachaelja

I had D&V late last week and spent the night in hospital being rehydrated. My nausea and vomiting in pregnancy had eased off but came back with gusto on Thursday.

4 other pregnant ladies were admitted the same night with the same symptoms, so I think it must have been a bug.

I believe constipation is more usual in pregnancy, this has been my experience up to last week. diarrhoea is common before delivery though.

I am pleased to hear you had sucess with the inexpensive ovulation sticks, I had a look on the boots website and some of the test kits were £100!!!

My baby is stamping on my bladder, I think it will be born with hob nail boots on!

On another note, does anyone know how child tax credit works? I had a look on 2 websites and put our income details in the calculators and got 2 totally different figures

Hi I'm 12 weeks pregnant and just started suffering from the same complaint and was a bit worried. I read somewhere though that it's normal at this stage to get headaches because of the increase in blood volume putting on extra pressure in the arteries. If they get really bad (migraines with white spots etc) probably best to get it checked out but otherwise nothing to worry about. Another symptom of pregnancy that we have to bare ;)

I just had my first scan yesterday and it was so amazing! It makes it so much more real now to see it moving around, there were a few tears of joy from both happy parents to be :D

Thanks kimmy310, that sounds about right, they're not migraines just annoying, I did have a bit of a nose bleed yesterday so maybe it is all the added blood pressure!!!

There are three elements which you should get when your baby is born:
    - family element £545
    - baby addition £545
    - child element £1765

This gives a total of £2855/year for the first year after which you would not get the baby addition element (unless you have another baby). It is reduced according to any income you have above about £15k/year by 37% of any income above that threshold.

This means if you had income of £20k they would give you £1850 less as this is 37% of £5k. There is an upper threshold where they stop reducing it and you get the flat rate of the family element up to an income of around £60k when you don't get anything at all.

There's probably a tax credits website somewhere which can give you more detailed information. I think if you request a claim pack it will come with a leaflet which tells you about the exact figures as they change slightly each financial year.

If your baby is born part way through the financial year (as most are) then they scale the payment down according to the number of days left in the financial year. I think that you can get your claim backdated to when they baby was born unless you take more than three months to claim in which case it goes from the date you claim.

Hope that's helpful, I'll see if I can find my leaflets later and post a url if there is one.
  • Hi,

Re. tax credits - I use the excellent factsheets on the Working Families website.

emma_b - I'm thinking of you. Let us know how you get on.

  • I spotted a bargin in my local lloyds chemist today, Baby monitors for £9.99 reduced from £34.99 (i think) They looked as good as the one i already have which was much more expensive.

    Hi I'm Worto's better half!

Our little one's due on 3rd April and I've recently started swimming and aqua natal. Does anyone else just feel absolutley exhausted afterwards? I feel wiped out and good for nothing the same evening.....

Also - does anyone know if nectar points are worth double at Adams Kids, they used to be?

    thanks
