Re: surnames.

I dont know how the law stands now but when my son was born 8 years ago he took (now ex) partners surname. Ex had to be present at birth register as we werent married. Once the birth has been registered and a birth certificate issued there is no way of altering it. When we split I wanted my son to use my surname but had to change it by deed poll, so I now have to provide deed along with b.cert. whenever it is needed. As far as getting married you shouldn't have to do anything, especially not adopting! But as far as having a new birth certificate issued with your married name on.......I thought once it was rubber stamped a birth certificate couldn't be altered? If it can be, ace.
