Hi, Wonder if anyone can help?

My wife is due in July this year. She will be taking 6 or 9 months maternity leave and which she is going back to work full time, I work for full-time too.

What we still can't figure out is, how much does childcare cost? When she goes back to work fulltime,will a childminder look after a child under a year old for 8hrs a day mon-fri? We live in lichfield/staffordshire and one who lives in the same locality?

Does anyone know how I go about claiming Maternity Allowance? I did try starting a thread for it but the only response was a link to information for if you live in Northern Ireland and I'm not sure it's the same as over here.

You claim MA through the Job Centre. There is a downloadable form on that page that you can print off and fill in, or you can ask the Job Centre for a form.

You can choose your area, and even the nursery/childminder and see the cost.

Hi everyone,

I just have a really quick (and probably very silly) question for you.

I was talking to a friend of mine last night and we got onto a conversation about how my partner and I won't be married (but are engaged) at the time our baby is born and how the baby will have my partner's surname as we do plan to get married at some point.

She said that she thought I would need to adopt the baby once we'd got married - surely this is rubbish?!?

I am concerned about us not being married anyway because of the law (I've had a lot of training on this due to work) in Scotland, my OH doesn't have many rights over the baby until the time we get married - but we are planning to get married in 2008, so not too far away!

Anyone help?

We got married in July last year and I was never told he need to adopt him.
