Had my 20 week scan. Everything is perfectly normal, apart from the little monkey wriggling about all over the place so it took ages to take the measurements :D

Pictures were so clear. We even saw baby's mouth open and baby swallowed some fluid which was amazing as the pictures were not that clear when I was expecting my last child 8 years ago.

Congratulations Becles! That sounds amazing. We don't get a 20 week scan here so I'm considering saving up to pay for one. I'd love to see the baby again.

We get 2 here - one about 14 weeks and one about 20 weeks.

My brother and SIL live in a different health authority area, and the have had the Nuchal scan for downs etc., free on the NHS, but I was told living in Co Durham we would have to have that done privately at a cost of around £200, so I didn't bother!

It's a shame it's not all the same for everybody right across the UK.

  • Valentine,

I am in a similar situation as you engaged when our son was born 7 weeks ago.

When we went to register his birth we gave him his Dad's surname as we will be marrying in April and didn't see the point otherwise. His Dad automatically get parental responsibility as he is on the birth certificate.

However the registrar said when we get married we will have to get another birth certificate for Jack with my married name on. This is because in the future due to inheritance law he would be considered illigetimate and this would affect things. Its remote that some long lost relative may leave him something but just in case. In every other way it doesn't matter that he is illigetimate these days except from some law that hasn't been modernised.

So as we are getting married in a registry office we are going to try to sort out his birth cert again on the day.

Pain in the bum and more money!!!

Thats what we've been told to do anyway.

You won't need to adopt him that's ridiculous!

Congrats by the way, good luck!

    I've never heard that before?

I was married when mine were born so I'm Mrs on the birth certs. I then was Miss for a while as I went back to my maiden name on divorce, and now I'm Mrs something else as I married again last year. My children still have their original name and birth certs and I've never got anything changed

Here's a peek of my baby though:

  • re; the surname thread...my dad died when I was two and my mum remarried when I was nine, I took my stepdad's name but never changed my birth certificate and neither was i adopted by him, I just started using that name. It was never an issue until I was getting married, at which point I had to get a form signed by the local council verifying that I was known by a different name than on my birth certificate. It was fairly straightforward and didn't cost anything to do.

Hi, Wonder if anyone can help?

My wife is due in July this year. She will be taking 6 or 9 months maternity leave and which she is going back to work full time, I work for full-time too.

What we still can't figure out is, how much does childcare cost? When she goes back to work fulltime, will a childminder look after a child under a year old for 8hrs a day mon-fri? We live in lichfield/staffordshire and one who lives in the same locality?

    Thanks
