tequilla_slammer2002 wrote:Thanks Becles and Susan. That helps loads. Is it normal to be tired all the time no matter how much sleep you get? Everybody says that you are ment to have loads of energy ect in your 2nd trimester but all i seem to do is sleep! We saw 'peanut' on the 29th dec and they said everything is fine. They said baby must have just eaten, dispite the fact i had just been sick so i'm guessing that that must have been a good sign!?0

To Tequila slammer (and all others worried about labour) - it's perfectly normal to be !!!!!! scared of everything while you're pregnant. All I can say is to find out as much as you can and don't set your heart on a certain kind of labour - you'll only be disappointed.
Don't read on if you don't want gorey details of my labour, there is a point to me telling you though!
If you were reading some of the earlier posts you'd know I had contractions for 5 days starting on the Friday before Christmas. I didn't know at that point that baby was back to back. They went on until eventually on Boxing Day I was dilated enough (3cm) to go into the birth centre where I was booked. It's midwife-led, so no doctors, limited pain relief, but a real home-from-home environment.
Ideally I wanted a water birth and was pleased to finally make it to the birth centre. We had a lovely couple of hours just the two of us (and a tank of gas & air) watching rubbish early morning TV and him helping me through the contractions. Then I had an hour or so in the pool, which was great!
Unfortunately things went downhill from there. Midwife figured out baby was back to back, her heart rate was faster than they'd like (but not by much) and I wasn't coping with the back pain I was having, which didn't disappear when the contractions did.
To cut a long story short it was an ambulance trip to the local hospital (lights & sirens & all!) which is only 10 mins away. Was whipped straight up to a room where I managed to demand an epidural (in between sucking for my life on gas & air). 10 hours later it was down to theatre for a c-section and our little princess was born at 23.15 on Boxing Day.
The point of telling you all this is that I barely remember a thing even though it was only 11 days ago!
It was the exact opposite of the birth I wanted but it doesn't make a blind bit of difference. All the people who looked after me were fantastic and none of it ever felt traumatic (although hubby would say different). I coped because I was able to stay open-minded about what could happen and was kept informed about the possibilities all the way along.
It was the most painful thing I've ever been through, yet I would do it all again in a second. It was worth every minute of lost sleep, pain and worry.
In summary - find out as much as you can, have an idea about what you want, but don't set your heart on anything as, ultimately, your baby will decide what happens and it'll all be okay in the end.MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090 -
I'm with Lu T on this one. This is my third pregnancy and I havent had anything go to plan with any pf them. I am 34+5 now and have only a couple of weeks to go, due to being diabetic now.
I have known people who have suffered with post natal depression becuase they have been so rigid on what they want and something went wrong. I think alot of women can have their heart set on something and when it doesnt happen that way they become very dissapointed. The only way to avoid this is to keep an open mind and be flexible with everything. There is nothing wrong with having an idea of what you want but just remember that nothing is for certain in labour and birth.
I am sure I'll end up with a section again but it's not what I want. I had a natural induced birth the first time at 40 weeks before I was diabetic. The second time I had an emergency section at 36 weeks due to numerous complications and a 4 week stay in hospital, so boring....lol. This time I have had good control of my daibetes but my blood pressure has gone up and I am showing signs of pre-eclampsia again. My doc is telling me to go day by day at the moment and see how I go. I will take it as it comes. Hope this advice helps some one xxxxx;)0 -
:hello
Hi there girls! Just found this thread after few weeks of reading through all the other threads.
Lovely to read what others are going through in their pregnancies.
:j Just want to share my news that i'm 19 weeks pregnant on my 3rd child due in May. 20 week scan next week(fingers crossed we can see if it's a pink bump or a blue bump).
I've joined most of the commonly found pregnancy clubs i can think of, but are there any unusual sites to grab bargains for mini-me?
Good Luck All!:A

Gorgeous baby boy born on 2nd jan 07 @ 8.12 pm.
went in to day assessment where the ctg wasn't variable enough for their liking, took me straight down to labour ward where I had my waters broken, there was mec in them so we waited to see if things started naturally...didn't, so was put on drip, at 1.40pm, she upped the drip a little from 1.5 to 3 an hour...this started contractions gradually but as they got stronger baby's heartbeat would dip so she put it back down again after an hour, had my tens on and went on to entonox but became so painful i was trying to tiptoe up away from the pain (i was standing) she examined me quickly lying down and found i was 5cm within half an hour i went to 10 (didn't know though) i was demanding an epidural (which i did't want but as i was demanding it i knew this meant the pain was so bad that labour was imminent, (found out later) a woman dr standing behind me saying to the midwife that i was 10 cm and she wanted to examine me, baby's heart beat was going down to 60bpm even without contractions, so got told to lie on side and open leg for exam, couldn't lift leg so told hubby to lift it as i was shouting need to push, dr did quick exam and said yes push, they told me to roll on to back as i did i pushed out his head, the cord was unravelled from twice round his neck whilst i pushed out his body. found out after that if i hadn't been 10cm and pushing i would've had the brakes off the table and wheeled into the theatre which was all prepped for me....scary thought, worst nightmare would've been c section for me. but all's well. milk is in and we all go...didn't have a bad night last night so i actually hoovered today:D"You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view...
