Hi Mouseann & Jinny - just hearing you talk about renting and credit checks, I have read on here that the check that landlords/agents do is mainly to check that you are who you are i.e. an identity check not a credit check, but even if they did a full credit check, if you told them up front about your position, it would be OK. When we first rented 10 years ago, we told the agent, when they mentioned a credit check, about the problems we had and everything was fine.
But I would advise you both to get your names down on the council housing list as soon as possible - it costs nothing and the longer you are on the list the better. Most councils are moving towards bidding for property. Instead of getting points and waiting until you are top of the list before you are offered a property, they advertise the available properties online, in local newspaper and in their offices, potential tenants look through these and if anything comes up that they like, the 'bid' on it. Rather than the points system, you are set on one of 3 levels depending on age, mobility, need (children, homeless), medical, etc and it is the bidder on the best level that gets the property, subject to viewing. Also, if either of you could claim that they need single-level accommodation, the council may home you when you sell up, possibly.
I seem to remember telling you about this at the beginning Ann ..............
Mind you were in a different 'place' then!!Mr 3Dogs 3-7-12

Thanks 3Dogs,
I do remember - you did mention this before!

Well, as it is quiet I think I will head for bed!
The dog has just spent the last half hour with me in the sitting room - she is really getting round me to spoil her!
I just hope that Dyson is working so that I can get rid of the evidence before they get back on Thursday!
Don't think I am a good house-sitter - at least the cats can go where they want to and the rabbits just stay in their hutch!
Anyway, goodnight Jinny, 3Dogs (how on earth do you cope with 3?) and Swanfan - plus anyone else who may be around!

Hi Ann
Re the housing list, you could always tell the local authority, that you are an " elderly lady " and need to be closer to your family. We live in a flat, which is local authority owned, and just for the over 55's. No hassle, £200 per month rent, and fully modernised. No problems, anything needs doing we just ring and its sorted. We were only on our list for 2 years, it helps if you will consider a flat. Ours are purposed built, but only 2 storeys. Best move we made.
