Hi everyone and hello to our new friends.
It's just taken me almost an hour to read the posts I've missed today on this thread.
I've had a lovely day at an agricultural show with my family - a lovely sunny day
I have a confession to make - I didn't manage to get out of my PJs all day yesterday. I started reading through Niddy's thread from the beginning. Several hours later and I'd only got up to page 45!! Niddy's gone up even more in my estimation (if possible) because he's a fan of Mark Knoppfler (Dire Straits.)
Glad to see you got your iron problem sorted Ann. If you want to get get dog hairs off the settee or carpet rub with a damp cloth - all the hairs get rubbed into a ball.0 -

Not sure how it works if you aren't actually living in the area you want to move to, though?
Just get in contact with the local authority down there, you could call in when you are there now, or telephone or online I expect, and say you need to be moving near your family as you are 'getting on a bit now' - ask for a housing application form and put it in. Ask them if they do points or bidding on their housing. I have a form for 'up home' North Tyneside council to apply for housing up there as all our family is up there including my 90 year old mam, I just rang them up for it. One day I might even fill it in!!!
We went into private renting in 2000 and applied to our local council in October 2007 for ground floor accommodation as I could no longer manage the stairs in our rented house - we were offered one about 2 months later but I think it was one that had been on their books for a long time as the area was very bad, so, after much discussion, we turned that one down. We agreed that it was wrong to accept the first one just to get away from the stairs when it was so wrong for us and we would not be happy there. In February 2008 we were offered the bungalow we are in now and couldn't be happier. It is small butthere is just the 2 of us after all and the dogs of course but they are small - actually we only had 2 then. But it is great for them too as we are in a little village (no shops or PO, one inn, one school, a village hall) and we have fields to one side and behind, and a cemetery to other side - lots of space for walkies - and we have very good neighbours. We really love living here.
Actually all council housnig here was passed to a housing association just before we moved in, but they are better than the council for keeping up with maintenance and repairs. Our bungalow was only built 20 years ago and has double glazing, fantastic insulation, step-in shower, and they replaced the kitchen for us moving in. We had electric storage heaters but last year they replace them with oil central heating to help keep costs down. You automaially get a new kitchen, bathroom and windows every 10 or 20 years (can't remember which is which) but you get the picture - no maintenance for you
Whatever, you need to cover all options and it can't hurt to check out the social housing one.
Edit: whoops - did not mean it to be such a long post - well it is longer now with thisMr 3Dogs 3-7-12
