after reading all this....if OP is pragmatic about whether she is pregnant - then DO NOT take the MAP. if she isnt pregnant it isnt going to do any good and if she IS pregnant - it may be too late anyway! and why take a drug if she would want the baby? why put it at risk?
she is right - use condoms for now - then do a pregnancy test - but she really should be referred for a scan asap - where the heck has that coil gone? and ectopic pregnancy is always bad news for the baby and can be for the mother unless its diagnosed in time.
  • i never realised that ( that you ovulate 15 days after the start of your period i thought it was 15 day after your period stop o well we must start having some fun every night now hehe. (had my first period in a year and a half !!!!! )

This actually depends on the length of your cycle, and actually you ovulate 14 days before the start of your next bleed/period. Therefore if your cycle is 28 days you ovulate on about day 14. but if you have longer cycles i.e 36 days you should ovulate around day 20 (after your bleed).... however most doctors would advise you to start having fun a few days before to get the wrigglers insitu ready for ovulate.

Also hcg levels (what a pregnancy test, tests for) start to rise and show up in urine from about 9 days after conception.....

to clarify.. after the first day of bleeding NOT after the bleeding stops!!

oh.. and for one respondant (I forget who).. the menstrual cycle starts the first day of the period NOT when you ovulate.. so yes her cycle will have started again already

I'm currently having a 'safe day' baby too lol

Just wanted to add that with my dd I tested preggers at around 3 weeks!! This was partley due to a very irregular (nearly non existant) cycle so I had no idea when testing except a feeling!!.
At my dating scan they put my dates back 3 weeks from what we had guesstimated....... our dates had been worked out based on what shift my self and ds had worked (both working differant nights) in the past month and when we had been at home together lol!!
My point being sometimes a test will show pregnancy within a week of conception!....although I know this isnt the norm you may have a result by the end of the week as long as you test with your first wee of the day when testing (because of a higher concentration of hormones)!

MAP is a form of an early abortion, as it works after the fertilisation.
It contains a large amount of hormones and have really strong impact on your body. I personally wouldn't trust it not to harm my baby.
and this is why the OP needs medical advice, as suggested earlier in the thread, rather than comments on forums which lead to debate on whether or abortion is ok.

i have to say, this thread has scared me - i've been thinking about long term options apart from the pill (don't want to be on it too long term, despite all the third generation being safer thing). i thought the coil might be a better choice... but this kind of thread makes me think twice!

OP - hope that it works out, whatever the outcome is!

  • Thanks Pigpen, for your clarification..... quite right my explanation was slightly ambiguous at that point!

Glad you made it, I've known many a woman failing to get pregnant simply because they have no idea of how their cycle actually works.

Good luck all those ttc, don't give up.

    Hi Melancholy,

Please dont let this worry you, i have had the coil for 5 years without a problem, i know that the coil was there when i finished my last period becuase i check for it every month - only since i was going to the Dr i decided (in my infinite wisdom) not to check after this period.

As long as you make sure you can still feel the strings then the coil is still there!

I think (and hope) that the most likely scenario is that it has fallen out and that there is nothing more sinister going on. Thinking about it i had a really horrible monthly so it might have been a sign that the coil was gone before it started if that makes any sense.

Please dont let this put you off, there are positives and negatives about every form of contraception and until now, 6 months before it is due to expire - i have had no problems what so ever.
