How soon? - updated

Updated on last page - the saga continues :(

How soon can you test for pregnancy?

Have just been to the Dr and have been told that the coil i was about to have replaced is missing.

Not sure if it has fallen out or if it has migrated, but long story short, all sex has been unprotected without our knowledge.:o

My period finished on Tuesday and since then we have been rather "active" so, how soon could i find out if i am pregnant or not?

Dr has presrcibed the MAP which i havent taken as yet (got to collect it from the chemist later as they didnt have any)

If i wasnt to take it, how soon would i know if i were pregnant? OH and i have spoken about children etc and both very much believe in fate etc etc.

Part of me is thinking if i dont take the tablet and see what happens (without having any more unprotected sex) then if a baby is what is meant to be it will be.

I HAVE spoken to OH about it briefly and we are both going to discuss the options later, but would love to know how soon i could test.

Thanks for reading if you got this far :)

    Hi there!

There are some tests that can detect HCG hormone (which is the one that makes the second line go blue) a few days before your period is due, for example clear blue.

I think it's much more reliable though, to wait until you have missed a period though as if you took the test early, you may get a false negative (when there isn't enough of the hormone present to make the test show as positive)

    HTH!

    Hiya,

I think if your period has just finished there would be a really slim chance of getting pregnant.

Surely your cycle won't have started again already?!

    Oh dear

I don't know what you cycle is usually like, but I find with me it goes unprotected sex in fist week after period = pregnant without fail :o

If you are already pregnant the MAP can't change that, but it won't hurt the baby either.

Talking to your OH is really a good idea. You're doing it all right, if that helps at all :D

thanks for not telling me off guys, was expecting some coments about asking stupid questions :o

if i were pregnant it would not be the end of the world and i would actually be happy, as would OH.

But we had decided to have the coil replaced to give us a little more time together before the event, and time to prepare (save etc) so it was a rather large shock this morning when the GP said the coil had gone.

I know it was there after the period 2 months ago becuase i checked :o so wherever it has gone it has done so recently.

How would the MAP not harm the foetus? i thought that it was designed to make the womb inhospitable?

    thanks again

Hi I have recently found out I am preggers, and apparently (although I didn't!) on this box it says you can test 5 days before the period is due.
And yes I conceived 1st week after last period........... :)

Thanks for confirming im going about it the right way :) my first thought when the Dr said there was an issue was to call OH and tell him so we could make the decision together - after all, its not just about me is it

Thanks for the confirmation, i guess when your body says its the right time, its the right time :)

Unfortuantely my next period is not due until the 20th so working 5 days ahead i could test on the 15th i guess

I can see this being a long 15 days!

Ha ha this may seem like a long 15 days, but if you do end up with the proverbial "bun" every day will feel like it drags, as it becomes a "how long til next milestone" :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
