Jill, usually WEM's say congratulations or winner in the title, I have had some before that were just titled the same as the entry I had sent whcih made it less obvious. And it's worth checking your spam folder too. If in doubt check anything you are unsure of and the more experienced compers on here might be able to advise you how to filter your wems into a folder on your desktop but that's much too advanced for me :rotfl:

    Thanks Savvybunny.
Maybe somebody out there has this knowledge - and will share please ;)

I get so many emails that I do a search every day in my inbox and spam folder for the word 'winner' and then the word congrat (covers congrats and congratulations). It brings up some emails that aren't winning ones obviously because comp notifications can have the words too.

All my e-mails 99% of the time go into my inbox (hotmail), am I taking a chance deleting e-mails that don't have the obvious in their heading, in other words should I open every one just in case a messsage is hidden?

What do you experienced compers do?

    Well you've quoted what I do :)

You don't have to open every one, just search for obvious words.

I don't think that there is the option to search for words contained in an email with hotmail, the same way that you can do for example if you use Outlook for your emails. (If there is, perhaps someone could teach me how!).

I use hotmail and I read them if I am not sure. If the heading of the email is something in the news, about say Cheryl Cole, then I don't bother opening it, but if it were something that I was not entirely sure about, then I would open it and take just a second or two to glance at what it is about. If you think that you might have missed any this way, you can always google for example "Joe Bloggs" + winner, or you can search on money saving expert IWIWIW forum for "Bloggs", as winners lists are often posted there.

I've done the google thing, it searches every day on my name and my username and I get an email of what it finds. Just wish I had an unusual name, with a surname like Hunt it picks up a lot of unrelated stuff.

I don't do the google thing automatically like you do, I just manually type my details into Google every now and again. If you put quotation marks round your first name and last name, i.e. "Joe Bloggs", it only searches on Joe Bloggs, where it appears together, so would not pick up a list of winners for example Joe Smith, Bob Bloggs....

Will try and explain what I do as simply as possible which may help if you have a hotmail account

Basically I have my emails automatically sorted into folders, that way any containing common comping words such as "congratulations" or "winner" will arrive in my WEM folder which shortens the skimming needed for my inbox

Step by step of how to do it if you want to
    1) Create a WEM folder
    2) Click Options > More Options
    3) Under the heading "Customize your mail" click Automatically sort e-mail into folders
    4) Click New Filter
    5) In the drop down box select "subject" and insert word e.g. "congratulations"
    6) Set to send to your WEM folder
    7) repeat process as needed

    Hope that helps someone

This is great advice - I am currently so un-organised with my comping - haven't got a clue about searching by end date on here and have just followed your tip to create my own WIN folder which will hopefully fill up hehe! Are there any other buzzwords you use? I have filtered - congratulations and winner .....
Wins so far - Numerous Glamour and Rimmel Goodies, 4 tickets to T4OTB, Tiling Tools and Paintbrush, Dova Spa Facial, 5 Tickets to Lynx Allnighter (Halloween party)

Thanks to all posters on MSE :T
