Avoid Tesco Diesel
Comments

Well my local Texas Oil Co has in the past managed to get water in the tanks, but never diesel in a petrol tank.
BUT, I did once fill up and panic when I realised the pump said unleaded and I've got diesel cars. I double checked the pipes and they were black and the attendent said the unleaded was sticking inside the pump - so you never can tell really
Thanks kittiej, this gives me a bit more ammunition when it comes to argueing my case.:)0 -
I was filling up in Tesco yesterday (Surrey) & the girl serving me was asking another for advice with a complaint & a helpline number re contiminated petrol (I think they said with water though).
Yes I've read in a paper somewhere last week that they had found water in the diesel at Somerfield's and two cars had broken down as a direct result of it. It's hard to know who to trust nowadays when refueling. Never had trouble with fueling in 20 years of driving before!:(0 -

Or, you did.
Impossible that I did (have the evidence). Still possible the garage did but very unlikely as the tank was virually full when I took the car in.0 -

I had problems last year with my TR7, filled it up with petrol and within ten minutes it was juddering and misfiring. Couldnt prove it though and TBH for £20 it wasn't worth it. I try not to use Tesco wherever possible.0

I wonder if appraoching the local paper may be useful, if the paper are happy to run with it it may assist in locating other drivers who may have suffered the same issue. Failing that most papers have the 'readers letters' page so you could try that if the paper is to scared to go up against a large company0

How about contacting trading standards to let them know and put them on notice of the potential problem?
If I remember rightly when the Tesco/Morrisons petrol contamination issue came up in 2007 it was trading standards who did tests on the fuel and found an abnormality. This was despite Tesco doing their 'own' tests and finding no problem with the fuel
There are a couple of links you may find useful under the Damage/Repair/Servicing title: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=9480670 -

So the garage took the car out for 200 miles, collecting parts, etc.0
