Well my local Texas Oil Co has in the past managed to get water in the tanks, but never diesel in a petrol tank.

BUT, I did once fill up and panic when I realised the pump said unleaded and I've got diesel cars. I double checked the pipes and they were black and the attendent said the unleaded was sticking inside the pump - so you never can tell really :(
Karma - the consequences of ones acts."It's OK to falter otherwise how will you know what success feels like?"1 debt v 100 days £2000

Surely that Sig link should be removed? scrabbling around for pennies conned from the desperate by advertising your affiliate schemes for gambing sites is hardly in the spirit of Money Saving?

"The UK's number 1 site for earning an extra income." what a load of nonsence

Maybe your fuel tank incidence was karma?

If you filled your derv tank with petrol, then the resulting mixture would have been immediate - the act of gushing the petrol into the tank would have thoroughly mixed the two products.

Within a very short distance of driving, the contaminated fuel would have reached your engine.

A very small amount of petrol in a large amount of diesel fuel is sufficient to significantly change the performance of the fuel to a point that would cause you to stop not very far from the forecourt.

Undoubtedly, the petrol entered your tank at some stage when the vehicle was at the repair garage - vehicle probably used by employee to go home in and joy ride in the evening and then topped back up with fuel so you would not notice - unfortunately, did not realise your vehicle was a diesel.

Incidentally, it was not just Tesco's fuel that was contaminated some years back -several brands suffered as the contamination took place in a storage tank at a communal fuel depot widely used by the oil industry in general. It was not Tesco's fault and, although they covered costs incurred by their customers they, in turn, claimed those costs back from the fuel storage depot operators.
  • I find it improbable that the filling station somehow mixed petrol and diesel, and instead much more likely that someone working at the garage misfuelled your car.

    Or, you did.

Yeah and got to hate it when people say you can make £thousands, and they obviously aren't making that sort of money themselves, and just saying so to try get you to part with money or for referrals etc. If OP could get £20k a year as they claim I doubt they'd be here asking about petrol in a diesel car's tank.

I'll continue to avoid Tesco fuel for no better reason than that it is always 2-3p per litre more expensive than everywhere else.

Same here, it costs more than my village garage.

Every little helps ( Tesco ).

The OP is quite obviously just a TROLL and their post was quite obviously planted solely to post their :spam: (now reported and deleted by MSE) link in their signature.

If you make £20k a year on top of your wage, how come you're asking Tesco to fix it?

(Lazy way of saying the site in the sig is BS).

Sorry but you are mistaken. This is not my site, is merely a site I use regularly at the moment. Perhaps I should have read the forum T&C properly before updating my account, opps sorry. Please respond ONLY with helpful advice and stick to the subject matter :o

I was filling up in Tesco yesterday (Surrey) & the girl serving me was asking another for advice with a complaint & a helpline number re contiminated petrol (I think they said with water though).

until you find more drivers with a similar problem it is doubtful tesco will accept responsibility for this, even with scores of drivers having the same problem with their last fuel contamination issue it took a great deal of effort for them to admit anything.

That's what I'm affraid of! I'm going to try and claim though nonetheless. At least I have evidence but perhaps it's not sufficient enough to overpower the monopolising Tesco!?
