65, if you have a bus pass you're an OAP and therefore elderlyThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I think 75+ but that may change. I use to think 60 was really old because my grandad was 60 and he seemed old, he behaved old. Now my dad is 62 and seems young. Maybe its not so much the numder as how the person behaves.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000

I don't think anyone on Silver Savers is elderly, for the record.Signature removed for peace of mind0

My OH is 70 but he is not elderly, guy across the road is 85 and he doesn't look a day over 60. I know 20 year olds who act 90 and 90 year olds who think they are 20...who cares how old someone is?0

for me, I think 'elderly' when someone has grey/white hair and finds it difficult to get around. Generally, I use 'older' (or 'old' if I forget my manners). I feel that 'elderly and 'old' inssinuates that they are 'past it' or 'over the hill', which I disagree with/think is a load of tosh.0

I am forever saying things like' I don't like that, too middle-aged'.
I forget I am retired and getting a pension and have a bus pass.
'Elderly'' and 'old' are down to attitudes to life. I have more vigour and energy now, time to do lots of new things, since I am not exhausted by hours and hours of marking English essays.!
Enjoy life however old you are and stay young at heart!Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0 -
What age is elderly? Spend a couple of days in hospital and you'll find out fast.................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I was going to say 80, but I know a man, a retired church minister, hale and spry at almost 80, who still travels regularly around the world giving guest 'preaches'.
So no, age is an attitude of mind.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

My mum is 81 she is so sprightly that you would think she was a reversal of that age ie 18 and although I.m 25 (sorry 52!) I try to be like her when I feel alittle so called middle age moment coming on!
I like the "act your shoe size" motto:rotfl:
I have to say I agree with what you say.
I'm 55 but have always been young at heart whereas my eldest daughter who's 38 worries me sometimes as she's always been so old for her years.
I may not look it but I don't feel any different to what I did 35 years ago and I certainly love life and live it to the full.
Probably a lot more than some people years younger than me.
I have a mother who is almost 87 she is as strong and fit as when I was a child and alaways on the go.
She looks after herself cleaning, shopping even decorating refusing to give up and stop.
She says the day she needs help she may as well give up and die.
Mind you she's as fit as a lop and does'nt even need to take an aspirin.
I just hope I'll follow in her footsteps, strange thing is all the women in our family seem to be stronger than the men and live a good while longer anyway.
Age realy is in the mind though,to me anyway.0
