Age awareness

Options
I read an article about a 63 year old woman and it described her as "elderly." 18 year olds would probably think "ancient". As we're on an over 50s forum, what age do you classify as elderly?

    70 plus and I am (23)
  • "Old" has always been 5 or more years older than I am, and "elderly" 10 or more!

  • I am 50, but I cannot bring myself to say I am middle aged!! The term "Middle aged" seems to have so many negative connatations. I don't mind growing old at all, just don't like the term!!

Katieclampet, you are not midle aged at 50, I am 53 and I am definately not middle aged!!! lol

I think we all know people who are "old" in their 20's, likewise people who are "young" at 80+. Age is after all just a number.

My friend will be "gramps" next year at the ripe old age of 28. I had to chuckle when the Tesco operative at Self Service hit the "Customer is clearly over 25" button when we were shopping the other day :D

IMO, elderly is 65+ purely by virtue of the state pension age. It is however, quite subjective. My mother is 'elderly' at 58, yet my step dad (who is pushing 66) still acts like he is 25.

  • Age is totally irrelevent- it's how young you feel and not how old!:o
My mum is 81 she is so sprightly that you would think she was a reversal of that age ie 18 and although I.m 25 (sorry 52!) I try to be like her when I feel alittle so called middle age moment coming on!

'Elderly' is whatever age MiL is at the moment - because it means I'm not ;)
