Another useful post from an own brand expert and master of Aldi/Lidl suppliers

    Aww, cheers. (Blush).

Anyway, I was in ASDA yesterday and checked the Shandy. It's indeed the Graphic Packaging subsidiary in Pulheim, Germany, near Düsseldorf. Graphic Packaging is based in Marietta, Georgia and makes packaging for Coke, Anheuser-Busch, SABMiller, Kraft and others, with world-wide subsidiaries.

    http://www.graphicpkg.com/corporate/index.html

Pulheim also make the packaging for Asda's Biere de Belgique and their own brand French Lagers. All Brasserie St Omer, France's brewer for Britain's supermarket brands.

By the way, the shandy is cheaper at Aldi. £1.39 for 10x250ml.
  • I used to work for Cross & Blackwell, and the Salad Cream was just a matter of changing the labels and bottle shapes from C&B to Sainburys, M&S, & Tesco. The same apply to Tomato Sauce and Branston Pickle.:j

The one that I am 99.99999% certain about is Weetabix. They make for Tesco. They are just called Wheat Biscuits, packaged in a blue box.

I'm not so sure about this...
I've had both brands and the tesco's one tastes AWFUL with cold milk, but Wheetabix tastes fine with cold milk.
They are both ok with hot milk though.
  • Went on honeymoon to the maldives last year and went on trip to a tuna canning factory (not everyones idea of fun i'm sure but it was actually quite interesting) Saw all the tuna fish being brought in off the boats, washed, cooked, de-boned etc etc, but the one thing i will never forget is the actual tins being labeled.... every supermarkets tuna was prodcued in this factory. The tour guide showed us a book in the office and there were samples of Morrisons, Sainsburys, Asda, tesco, economy range..... you name the retailer, their tuna gets produced there. All tuna either comes from the Maldives or the Seychelles. Next time you buy a tin have a look at the stamp on the bottom of the tin.

I thought the Tesco sandwich pickle was almost 100% Branston your post confirms it :T
  • As a few others have said, Thorntons make most of M&S chocolates and sweets (I used to work for Thorntons).

I did hear a rumour that Clarins produced the M&S Formula skincare range and some of their cosmetics but I don't think there has been any proof of this.

I also read that Bourjois cosmetics are made by Chanel (as some others have said) and L'Oreal are made by Lancome but again I have never had any confirmation of this.

i have a friend who works in m&s, and she told me that clarins do make some of their make up, and thorntons make their chocolates. There were a few other things made by other companies too, ill try to find out what they were...:D

Ok, Tesco brand is from the Seychelles. Tesco Value: Ghana. So, you are incorrect in your assertion
  • Maybe its just me but the value bog roll in any supermarket is just awful

    Same goes to bread

    But as I said
  • Use a newspaper. :T
  • I work at a place that supplies supermarkets with fruit... Each supermarket has a specification that they want the fruit to be, so M&S get the best stuff, then Tesco's then Morrisons then Aldi... After that it gets sold to market traders.

So on that basis the M&S stuff is better quality, but the market stuff isn't bad stuff, its just fallen out of the supermarkets high specifications.

Best bet then is the market traders imho, for value for money :)

On the subject of brand names Vs own label stuff, salad cream and baked beans own label stuff is awful, give me the heinz stuff anyday.
