About 90% of all fruit juices inc sunny d (cartoned and bottled) would have been made by gerber foods in somerset. No specific vat for marks's or sainsbury's, the packaging and logo affects the taste as we are programmed to find the 'better' brands more tastier.
Personally i find morrissons budget orange juice the best the stuff in the red cartons.0 -
The one that I am 99.99999% certain about is Weetabix. They make for Tesco. They are just called Wheat Biscuits, packaged in a blue box. The wrapping that the biscuits are in inside the box is identical, but importantly they taste/are the same. It was mentioned to me a few years back, and I confirmed it for myself.
If they weren't the same I wouldn't buy them. A box of 48 is about 60p cheaper. Doesn't seem like much, but a family of four would get through them in a week = £30 savings a year. Do that on another 30 products on your weekly shop, and maybe you could save £1000 a year.
Only problem is I only know of the Weetabix one! If someone could let me know of other everyday foodstuffs that are just repackaged in Supermarket clothes, then I can start the big save! Washing machines etc are helpful to a point, but it's these items that most of buy every week that collectively would save a lot of people a lot of money.
**Update - I've just looked at the past 2 months of posts, and haven't really seen any products that would be a 'regular' shopping basket case. There seems to be some ill-informed info (ie this was the case 18 years ago, or 'can't remember what the product is called'
Not very helpful. You can do better!
p.s Dewalt made by Black & Decker? I don't think so!!! I agree with the other chap who quashed the suggestion. An absolute class apart. Dewalt if the very best you can buy, Makita hot on its heels. Black & Decker is somewhere in the middle (definitely behind Bosch) Why do B&Q insist on trying to push their own low-quality disguised brand on unsuspecting consumers? ie used to be called 'Performance Pro, now changed to Mac-Allister. I know there were recall issues of P-Pro - that's how well (not) they were made, so they thought they'd cunningly change the name. I would avoid this brand like the plague. Generally a good rule of thumb for tools is buy the best you can afford.0 -
Hi,
Had a temporary job at this place a few yrs ago. they packaged cheese (their own) for Asda, Tescos, M&S and others.
They gave they nicest slices to M&S, and a descending scale to asda, having the same cheese, but less standard appealing slices.0 -

The own brand by Asda, leaves the laundry rough and dry, BUT worse than this, gave me an allergic skin raction, and i had to re wash everything with decent powder such as surf. So not only is it a bad finsih, it also contains allergens which the good brands do not have! Surf is often on sale at good prices in Asda, so thats what i will stick to!
I can confirm this is true as I ended up with contact dermatitis due to using cheap shampoo from Morrisons during my student days - went to the doctor, he took one look and immediately asked if I had been using any supermarket own brand shampoo / shower gel... Needless to say I threw it out immediately after getting home.
Also a friend of mine changed his washing powder and ended up with a massive hole in a certain male appendage! Scary stuff...0 -
But they are most definately not the same product. De Walt are high quality tools, which will last. Black and decker brand is much lower in the market, their tools fall apart.
Whilst on the DIY subject, B&Q own brand tile spacers are made by Plasplugs, but are significantly cheaper.

I Used to work in a paint factory, the home brand 5lt tin was priced up then at £5.99. A Harrod's 1/2 ltr tin was priced up at £5.99. And they were exactly the same batch of paint. So why be a fool to brands0

I thought it was the Fabia that was the same as the Golf and the Octavia was essentially the Passat? They look about the right size for comparison.
On a similar note, Top Gear reported on the Toyota Aygo, Peugeot 106 and Citroen C1 a while back. They are essentially the same car, made in the same factory by the same people to the same specs.....the only differences are to the interior and exterior trim. They reckoned if you were going to buy one you may as well buy the Citroen as it was cheaper on the road.
the golf and the bora/jetta are essentially the same car, the difference being the bora/jetta are saloon versions, hence why the octavia is based on the golf..
the skoda superb on the other hand is based on the passatNamed after my cat, picture coming shortly0 -
:T YAY CROATIA :T
This concerns LIDL products.
Lidl have always been the most secretive retailer when it comes to disclosing information about their manufacturers. All you would ever find on the packaging was something like this:
"Produced for Lidl Stiftung und Co. KG, Neckarsulm"
This has changed. Now what does Croatia have to do with it?
Well, this: Go through the multi-language labels listing the ingredients and skip to HR (for Hrvatska, the native name of Croatia). Don't worry about the Serbo-Croatian language. What counts is that at the end of this section you will find the name and postal address of the manufacturer.
I can only assume that it is legally binding in Croatia to display the manufacturer of a product on the packaging, and since Lidl have spread into Croatia, that is what they have to do as long as HR is included in the multilingual labels on the packaging.
This may not apply to every Lidl product but depends on whether a specific product is sold in Croatia, in which case the manufacturer's name and postal address will be on the packaging. Unless they choose to get around it by making specific packaging for the Croatian stores only, which is unlikely to happen.0 -
