Great 'disguised Own Brand' Hunt.

A place I know of makes things for M&S and Asda, Lidl, Netto... whilst some of the ingrediants are the same, some aren't! M&S have the highest quality - but I prefer the taste Asda ones!! :rotfl: Whilst some products may taste the same, the quality of the ingrediants differ (such as real butter pastry and not-so-real-butter pastry, hydrogenerate fats and non-hydrogenerated fats), so if it's quality you are after, i'd go for the more expensive brands.0

Only 2 chocolate manufacturers in the uk? Hmmm...
Anyway, M&S Operetta chocolates are quite like Ferrero rocher, and have the added advantage of not looking so tacky!
Not so long ago the 'premium brands' were tested agains the standard and economy ranges, the 'premium' meat pies were much worse on health ground for salt and saturated fat content. Paying more does not ensure better quality.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
I have done reading too!

Not sure if this has been covered(didnt read all 45 pages!!!!)
I have been reliably informed that the "Toni And Guy" products that boots stock are actually made by boots themselves!
They have simply bought the name which is why you never see them sold anywhere else...The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
Nonsense - Masterfoods (Mars, Pedigree Petfoods, Uncle Bens etc) and Unilever are 2 seperate companies. :rotfl:
i think you will find reading the staff supply manual masterfoods which is based in ireland is part of the unilever group and as i regularly had access to there stock levels on my system i think i should know. since it was my job at the time after all....!!!!!0 -

Masterfoods is ceasing as a business name and was/is the worldwide parent company of all food, chocolate and pet food brands owned by Mars Inc

nothing to do with Unilever whatsoever0 -

No evidence though, I'm afraid - just a suspicion.
"Panache" on the lid is a safe guess.
Also, check the bottom of the packaging. Does it say "Pulheim" somewhere on there? Because that's where Brasserie St. Omer source their packaging.
Same stuff sold at Aldi, as "Brasserie Shandy".0 -

Another useful post from an own brand expert and master of Aldi/Lidl suppliers0 -
p.s Dewalt made by Black & Decker? I don't think so!!! I agree with the other chap who quashed the suggestion. An absolute class apart. Dewalt if the very best you can buy, Makita hot on its heels. Black & Decker is somewhere in the middle (definitely behind Bosch) Why do B&Q insist on trying to push their own low-quality disguised brand on unsuspecting consumers? ie used to be called 'Performance Pro, now changed to Mac-Allister. I know there were recall issues of P-Pro - that's how well (not) they were made, so they thought they'd cunningly change the name. I would avoid this brand like the plague. Generally a good rule of thumb for tools is buy the best you can afford.
When I have delivered to the B & D factories in the UK on the despatch bays being loaded there are always as many Dewalt liveried trailers as B & D - I was told that Dewalt was a B&D brand by lads on Goods In - have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_&_Decker

If you are still in any doubt this should clinch it ! Have a look at last years front cover of the Annual report - http://www.bdk.com/06report/

I went on a tour of the Cain's Brewery last month . Most of their canning is for other breweries and supermarkets. I think the tour guide said that only Co-op brand says made by Cains.
:beer:I don't know if it's still the case but a couple of years ago, Cains Brewery in Liverpool were producing supermarket own brand beer for the Co-Op and Asda.0 -
Never ever buy dog food from Supermarkets. I always shop at a large agricultural store (farmers use them) and buy in bulk. There is so much more choice as well. Leading brands like Pedigree chum and Bakers are just so expensive.
And a lot of Dog breeders and trainers say that Bakers is just rubbish !0
