Great 'disguised Own Brand' Hunt.

My aunt works for a whiskey bond and they bottle the same vats of whiskey with premium names (eg, Chivas Regal) and supermarket own brands (eg, Morrisons Whiskey).
She works checking the labels are straight and they trundle down the line straight after eachother out of the same vat!0 -
To reply to ThrobbsBlackHat a couple of posts ago, I think Peugeot own Citroen, so most Peugeot and Citroen cars are similar as they're basically the same development team as far as I can tell. Think Peugeot and Renault are competitors but they seem to do quite a bit of development together - probably due to the French government's influence to try to innovate in country (not sure but I think Peugeot has the French government as a fairly major shareholder).
Also after VW bought Skoda, I went to buy a Skoda Octavia (but didnt). The dealer said that since the takeover, the Octavia was the same body as the VW Passat - it's just a slightly less powerful engine in the Skoda but a few thousand quid cheaper. I was tempted!0 -
Dunno if it's been mentioned, but I believe Bausch & Lomb make ASDA's own brand peroxide contact lens solution.
They come in an identical bottle, with an identical lens storage case.0 -
Not disguised exactly, but it can often be worth looking for good beers labelled as own brands.
Years ago (unfortunately) Tesco Organic Lager was brewed by Caledonian Brewery, came in a Caley bottle but with Tesco label/price.
I also remember Badger Brewery supplying Sainsbury's a while back.
Currently, Shepherds Neame makes Whitechapel Porter and Gentleman Jack Strong Ale in the Asda Extra Special Range.
Anyone into their real ales will appreciate the price and taste of these beers:beer: , if not the tacky labels.0 -

Had it looked at by an engineer - the motor and circuit board gone (i.e., a manufacturing fault). The machine is 'beyond economical repair' - £250 worth of junk sitting in my kitchen - so beware.
Engineer tells me that Bosch, Miel, AEG & Zanussi are the 'better' makes.
Beware of Servis!
I heard the same from what i've discovered are very reliable and honest engineers localish to me (they are based in twickenham if anyone wants to know), on more than one occasion.
i've now got a bosch that i've had for about 2 years. we've had occasional draining problems but nothing that isn't simply solveable. They recommended Miele above that but i couldn't afford one and this was the next best. incidentally the one i had prior to this was a zanussi and died in exactly one year and one month.0 -

Basics was nicer than the normal own brand!
Tesco Value Jaffa Cakes - taste exactly the same as all other brands of Jaffa cakes.
i make chocolate rice crispie/cornflake cakes (ohhh.... what are they called?!?!) with Tesco Value Dark Chocolate, which is also about 25p - very chocoloately and delicious!0 -

no, that's scotch0 -
I always thought Whisky had to be from Scotland (no Scot I know would ever refer to it as Scotch and I am one
) and whiskey can be from anywhere.

Nothing major, but i have just bought superdrugs antiseptic cream, as it is cheaper than savlon. As i used it, i thought i would smell it, don't ask me why. I know how savlon smells and it smelled exactly the same, and had the same consistency.
I looked on the box and it said manufactured for superdrug stores and gives an address. So i checked the address on my old savlon tube, and what do you know, its the same name and address.
So i can assume that savlon make superdrugs antiseptic cream, and the superdrug one is cheaper.0
