In reply to bargain babe - primark , next, matalan, and m&s clothing all use same factories for ladies nightwear and socks at least.
Pretty Polly make tights for many ladieswear stores e.g. george, tesco, then sell them alongside pretty polly branded goods.

Not sure about situation with menswear but i know homewares also use a lot of same factories.

    Stick with primark!!!

I always buy Next & M&S socks and there is no way on earth that Primark & Matalan are the same. My MIL bought me a pair of PJs from Primark (& I hated them), so I returned them and the ONLY thing I could find to exchange them for in the whole shop was socks & they were terrible:eek:

Isn't there a clothing factory in Manchester that makes clothes for Next and George (Asda) ?

I think Tayto (crisps) supply Tesco's with snacks. See here.

Next & George ARE NOT the same, however the man that created Next, sold it & went to work as the consultant for George (this all happened quite a few years ago), but I think this is where the connection you mentioned has come from.

My DH works for Candia (or rather Candia bought out the dairy factory he works for ....). He has worked in the same dairy all his working life so knows the ins and outs. I know UHT milk isn't consumed anywhere near as much in UK as it is here in France, but for the record :

    1) Going back many years, the best-before date on milk cartons, was reduced from 6 months to 3 months, without altering anything in the production, so the carton that says 15/04/07 should remain ok until 15/07/07 (as even the 6 mth date had a certain amount of lee-way).

    2) All "normal" milk is treated in the same vats, and so whether it is Candia, supermarket own or the cheapie version with foreign lettering on it - it is the same milk. As DH says, which is cheaper to change, the packaging, or a production system ?
The production lines for "vitamin-added" (or whatever) are, however, different.

(I can see a similar reasoning being applied to some but not all products. And the clients own specifications would need to be considered too.)

So unless DH brings freebies home (pallets of milk that have too short a shelf life for the supermarkets, but still have easily 2-3 months to go), I always buy cheapie version with foreign lettering on it :T (Although for my cup of tea I still buy fresh milk ;) ).

    Claire

I've just started buying Candia UHT skimmed (I used to buy the boxes).
I love the bottle shape, I would rather pay a little more for that bottle & screw top lid, than a box you have to tear the corner off & often spill:mad:

i appreciate your ethics, but you have to bear in mind that the whole giving formula milk away in 3rd world countries is for a very good reason. high portions of the population in 3rd world countries such as africa suffer from HIV, and alot of people dont know they have it. alot of the children in these places get it from their mothers by way of breastfeeding-50% of mums with hiv do not pass the virus onto their children in the womb, but if that baby is then breast-fed they will pass the virus onto them.
i do however agree with the problems youve stated about it being expensive for them to buy more and children becoming ill/dying and i feel that if a company starts a project like this, they should follow it through and continue 2 provide formula at no cost 4 as long as it is needed and also provide the sterilizing facilities needed.

Nestle (I believe it is Nestle?) have been pushing formular milk in the third world before AIDS was ever heard of:rolleyes:
Not sure you are right about BF & AIDS either:rolleyes:

Matalan flat screen TVs are made by Sony. I know it because of someone who works for one of the companies.

I thought Matalan sold budget clothes & household bits & bobs:confused:

You moggy lovers treat em like babys. the eat whats given or starve.
    simple as.

Mine eats Royal Canin (only available in Pet Shops, make Iams & Whiskers look like Tesco value:eek: )

I tried giving him the Whiskers complete one, 3 days I left it down, he wouldn't touch it & he was an indoor cat at the time. He won't even eat Iams.

I have seen Vistron LCD TVs & LCD TV/DVD Combos advertised on the ebuyer website at very reasonable prices, normally including free delivery.

Anyone know who manufactures Vistron products?

maybe slightly off topic, but I was reminded that aparently some bagged salads (like washed and ready to eat) have been washed in chlorine, whether it's true or not I'm not sure.....wouldn't surprise me. However, any self respecting money saver wouldn't dream of buying bagged salad when you can buy a whole lettuce for a fraction of the price!

Just because the same factory makes for different stores doesn't mean the quality is the same. The fabric is of a different quality, design, thread, buttons, zips, width of seams, hems etc.
When I was doing a fashion design course many moons ago we visited a factory that at that time made clothes for M&S and British Home Stores. At that time the quality control on the Marks clothes were so much higher than British Home Stores. even down to how many stitches Marks would accept per inch!
