I agree it's always Heinz tomato ketchup-and Betty's earl grey tea.

I mostly agree regarding the ketchup but there is one exception. Sainsburys value ketchup is just as nice as Heinz, in fact I struggle to tell the difference. It's only 29p I think but does come in a glass bottle.

Hmmmm there's only Tesco-about a mile away, Morrisons and Asda about 3mile and Aldi -a mile and about 5 miles round here.
There's a couple of Kwik Save's but have never been able to shop there.

Sainsbury is about 15 miles away same with lidl.

That makes quite a difference-locations of your nearest supermarkets.

Unless you're in urgent need of anti - aging treatment - you should Ebay a tube or two. I managed to get one tube for 11 in boots and sold it on for 25.

My experience of Tesco curry sauces is that they don't quite match the branded ones, usually more watery. I prefer the Sharwoods sauces as they are thicker, only problem is they tend to be more expensive and come in smaller jars. My favourite curry sauces are Lidl's Kanpur Garden range, same price as Tesco own brand but very good quality. Be careful of their korma, it is almost too rich but this does mean it goes a long way.

I randomly tried Lloyd Grossmans sauces - hubba hubba. Tesco also have them on offer at ze moment. Usually use Homepride.
  • I have worked for a couple of factories including Fyffes, Kenwoods and another one that packaged cosmetics.

When I worked at fyffes we were shipping off the fruit and vef to all the major supermakets under the fyffes label and the bits that were not packaged so well went out under different labels for own brand stuff. That was 10 years ago mind so could well have changed.

At Kenwoods, I worked on the assembly line and would be putting the inner workings together. However, although they all worked in exactly the same ways, the blenders packaged up in white, black or silver and looked slightly different and were priced differently. Even though they were, in essence, the same blender.

The cosmetic packaging company was the worse one though. We would put labels on the makeup for everything from Estee lauder to the own brands. The only differences were the packaging.

Just shows that most times it is better to buy the "cheaper" brands.

    Hi

Not many people know this, but the WalMart group (Parent company of ASDA) have their own brand of electronics they sell in their stores.

Down to my own research, I have found that most Durabrand appliances such as VCRs and DVD players use Sanyo components. I'm not entirely sure if they are manufactured by Sanyo themselves, but internally, they are almost identical.

I brought an all singing, all dancing toaster and quite an expensive electric whisk a couple of years ago. They lasted 4 and 6 months before breaking! I replaced them with duraband products. OK they don't look quite so impressive but they both do the job they are supposed to really well and they have lasted for ages and the two of them together cost about £9 as apposed to about £60. Just proves that buying the so called better products are not always worth it.

haven't read all the thread but does anyone know if Charmin loo roll company make a cheaper but just as good brand for anyone else.
Really annoys me paying so much for something that is going to be flushed down the loo!

I agree. I'm always looking out for BOGOFs for Charmin and Andrex. When I can't see any offers on those, I've tried Wilko's (own brand) Aloe Vera loo rolls (in a 4 pack). Very soft and much like Andrex.

    Roxydogbert :D

PS. Sorry, don't know if Charmin (or even Andrex) make any own-brands, but wld be interested to know!

    I'm a bit of a late starter here-but I didn't know wilkinsons sold food.
3 tins of heinz beans for £1 as of may 29th.

They've only been doing grocery stuff a little while in our local Wilko. Only a small section, but some good finds on branded food. The Heinz baked beans 3 for 99p is a goodie :) (can also choose from Beans with Sausages or tinned Spag).

Went there last w/end and got some good offers:
    Lucozade 1 ltr bottle 99p (i think RRP 1.59).
Daddies Tomato ketchup (+ 45% extra free, large bottle for 99p).
Amoy Straight to Wok noodles 59p (Tesco RRP about 1.50-something). Plus, Amoy Straight to Wok fried rice 59p (again, cheaper than Tesco/Sains, etc)
Wagon Wheels 10-pack (huugge pack) 99p

There are a few other offers (can't remember), but worth a look if you're nearby a Wilko.

    Roxydogbert :D

In Todays Politically Correct World Why Is Tomato Ketchup Called Daddies ?
The average woman would rather have beauty than brains,
because the average man can see better than he can think.

Many people's view of the world is down to their experience, perception and what they have been conditioned to,this isnt any old MSE reply this is a important and experienced MSE reply :rotfl:

Wouldn't that only be an issue if it was called "Daddy's"?
