  • I used to work for a vegetable farm.

We used to pack onions for Morrisons, Marks & Spencer, Netto and Asda Smartprice. The onions were all the same, they just had different lables on. with Different Prices printed.

Same with Sprouts and Spring Greens.

There is a large bar of chocolate in lidl - cant remeber who it is by, but it is milk chocolate and nuts and tastes exactly the same as dairy milk whoe nut and its only 52p

Dont think diry milk would make stuff for anyone else though

I have yet to see a clone of Green & Black's chocolate, which is far superior to the crap Cadbury's churn out.....and yes....I do know that they own Green & Black's now! Cadbury's bars have never seen chocolate....they are just full of fat and sugar along with inferior quality ingredients. Take a look at what is in the G & B's bars to see the more costly and tastier ingredients used. My sister used to buy Cadbury's Fruit & Nut like a true addict and would not entertain Green & Black's. Recently though she has succumbed to the better stuff and even went in a Cadbury's shop and came out empty handed! :T
  • marks and spencer cosmetics and skincare are made by clarins. instant fix beauty radience balm is clarinses beauty flash balm.
per una fragrance is exactly the same as chanel chance
  • Wickes Building Supplies are something like 97% own brand but a lot of their products come from big suppliers.

Their handtools and some power tools are made by Draper, spray paints are ICI paints, Graham&Brown wallpaper, their Moffat ovens are made by Electrolux, their varnish used to be Ronseal but that may have changed, same with the woodstains - not sure if some are still Cuprinol. There's loads more but I can't think of them at the moment. You'd pay more for all these products with their brand names on.

I worked for Wickes for 8 years and people used to ask for brand names all the time. Some people were quite 'snotty' when I told them we only sold our own brand - if only these people knew :o)
  • I use to work in a Express Dairies UHT factory and there was no different in the quality of products from the value to the most expensive.

The only thing that was different was the paper (carton) to change brands a different paper was spliced on, on the run.

Tesco /Asda / Sainburys / Express Dairy / Dale Farm / (all the same contents)

  • Not strictly relevant but the bread sold at the major supermarkets is rubbish because it is old by the time they get it on the shelves - I was not aware of this until we ran out and I went to a Spar shop, bought our usual branded loaf which was beautiful and obviously much fresher than we were used to - we have never bought bread from a supermarket since - about 2 years ago(not all Spars by the way - you have to look around for those that sell all their stock in one day - squeeze the loaves and see the difference). Same with meat joints - Tescos nearly turned me into a vegetarian until I discovered a local butcher who was buying really good local meat which was much leaner and tasted much, much better

Apologies if this is old news or too obvious for words but let me just say:

    IBUPROFEN!!!
    IBUPROFEN!!!
    IBUPROFEN!!!
    (oh, and Paracetamol and asprin)

One of the biggest savings you can make is to stop buying Nurofen, Anadin and those other named brands. Please check out supermarket own brands and the alternative unfamous brands for these painkillers. Compare ingredients like for like, especially on Nurofen vs. Ibuprofen, and you'll be stunned that they are exactly the same, saving you about 60 - 90%!

There are three main painkillers we use over the counter; paracetamol, asprin and ibuprofen. Combinations of these are also used, and caffine is added to anything branded with Xtra, to dilate the blood vessels and speed the system up so it delivers the actual painkiller more quickly (or that's the theory). Most supermarkets do their own versions of this too.

On the combination painkillers, you can usually replicate the exact doses with cheaper versions of basic ingredients - be careful not to exceed any doses of anything though!!

Please be careful anyone buying Ibruprofen.:eek:You can get ulcers in your stomach by using this medication (make sure you take them after eating a hearty meal). This is a serious drug and should not be used flippantly as a painkiller.Aspirin is the same, it thins blood and in some cases (low blood pressure) can bring on a heart attack!.
Don't just buy drugs because they are cheap, consult your chemist or doctor about any contraventions they may have with other medications or indeed if you have a family history of certain ailments.
