EDIT:
This link from the Food Standards Agency website does the same job:
http://ec.europa.eu/food/food/biosafety/establishments/list_en.htm

EDIT: The German link is broken.:rotfl:
A list of German dairy processors can be found in post #949.

Schamansky - can you check your post 949 link - all I get is the intro page not a list of numbers and producers

Apologies if this has been posted before

My daughter bought me 'Supermarket own brand guide'. by Martin Isark £6.99 which shows his opinion on the comparison between branded and own make products- really interesting, from the limited time I have had to read it, it seems that most own brands are just as good and often at at least half the price!

Kelloggs, in particular are very expensive, someone has to pay for the advertising!

Another example, Diet Coca Cola is £1.32 for 2 litres, the writer says that Asda Diet Cola at 44p is as good-personally I always buy the own brand Cola anyway, why pay for the name?

I am sure that anyone, especially with a family could save the cost of the book very quickly.

If anyone does not want to buy the book but would like the writers views on any particular product, I will be pleased to let you know the answer.

Ooops, you're right.
This is not a direct link to the list of dairy processors, sorry.

To get to the list, navigate like this:

1) Go to http://www.milchqualitaet-bayern.de/index1.html
2) In the menu on the left, click "Milchverarbeitung".
3) Scroll down the page past all the pictures and and click "Zulassung der Molkerei".
4) Below the picture of a veterinary control stamp, there is a link:
Veterinärkontrollnummern der Molkereien in Deutschland. Abstandhalter.gif
Click that, and the list should appear.

The official government list still isn't accessible. The link is at the bottom of this official federal ministry page, http://www.bvl.bund.de/cln_027/nn_494194/DE/01__Lebensmittel/06__Verbraucherinfos/062__Genusstauglichkeitskennzeichen/Genusstauglichkeitskennzeichen.html__nnn=true
It reads "Betriebe für den Handel mit tierischen Lebensmitteln (BTL)", meaning as much as "meat and dairy processors". This link is supposed to take you to the database of approved processors, but it isn't working.

EDIT: Link is working now.

On the food programme recently on r4, it was said that over 90% of the base ingredient chocolate in the WORLD is made by 3 companies.

Any idea who they are?

Cargill, Barry Callebaut (who supply most of the UK & European market) and Archer Daniels Midland.

The Food Programme is here.
Interesting listen.

It's a few years ago now, so don't know if things are still the same, but I used to work for Nestle who make Go-Cat which is the brand leading dry cat food.

They also made own brands including Sainsbury's and Morrison. These were just the previous recipe's of the Go-Cat, so whenever the brand leader changed its ingredients, the old version went into the own label boxes.

Thanks Schamansky I just got this one from the EU - seems to list German producers of all types listed by product category

That's the one! :T The ministry link that wasn't working earlier. It seems they fixed it, or maybe it was temporarily unavailable because they were actualising the list. Possibly because of several recent scandals with certain companies criminally repackaging out of date meat products and putting them back on sale. Quite a few companies are being prosecuted right now, and some have been shut down by law.

Anyway, this is the mother of all lists. Couldn't get any more complete. These are all German companies that process animal products in any possible form. Great job!

It's a good one ! Now we can see who all these companies are that enable Tesco to flog value Yoghurt at 8 or 9p a pot and let Lidl knock out some nice smoked ham at £1.30 per 200g or whatever. As long as Sir Terry Tesco doesn't use any of these re-daters !

I normally buy either Persil or Fairy non bio washing powder but am wondering what the difference is between this and supermarket own branded washing powder. I do a lot of washing as there are 5 of us(3 under the age of 10!!!) and am desperately trying to bring my supermarket bill down and think that this is one area where I could reduce the cost but am reluctant to change brands unless I know that what I"m changing to is as good as what I currently use. I"d appreciate any help/advice re this.
loobylou2.Proud to be dealing with my debts and aiming to sort out the mess in 2013!!!!
