tesco wheat-free mini breadsticks are exactly the same as the kallo ones - down to the packaging inside.0

I work in sainsburys but used to shop in a competitor because it worked out cheaper even after staff discount on the branded goods i was buying....(bit of a brand snob)
At christmas when our office did secret santa i was given a box of all sainsburys basics range of goods (being single mum on a budget!) and have to say that it was all good...I'm afraid i have no insider info on who makes what but just wanted to say that branded isn't always best tasting, so for money saving principles it's worth trying the supermarkets own value/basic lines.
Phew... normally only lurk on the debt free wannabe so am branching out by actually posting!!!0 -
marybishop wrote:Not sure who makes them but have you tried Tesco Value jaffa cakes - half the price of the Tesco own brand in fancy packet but virtually identical when you look at the ingredients. Taste exactly the same. Also bought Tesco Value after dinner mints, friends brought round a box of Waitrose own brand and they were exactly the same thing. Not sure of price of Waitrose ones but as a former Waitrose shopper who's now trying to save money bet they're roughly double the price of the Tesco Value ones. THey were very yummy too!Penny xxx
Old age isn't bad when you consider the alternative.0 -
Has anyone thought of organising a MSE tasting evening, where we can all get together and do blind tastings of all the items mentioned in this thread?

Update on ALDI's Highland Black Whisky.
On the slightly redesigned bottle, it now says "Alistair Graham Ltd Edinburgh" on the label. Googled, no such company came up. According to a Danish website, they make Macandrew's. Never heard of.
But the postcode leads directly to Glenmorangie...there we go. No "Alistair Graham". Just a letterbox company name to veil ALDI's real supplier.
They made ALDI's Glenmarnoch whisky, too, but that's discontinued for now.
Might be back at some point, probably around Christmas.
Here is an example how hard ALDI try to veil their real suppliers.
But not only them.0 -
AFAIK, Glenmorangie only make single malt whisky and Highland Black is a blend. It's like comparing freshly squeezed OJ to Sunny D.
And it should be no surprise that a whisky (however cheap) comes from a distiller in Scotland - they're the only ones that can make whiskyJumbo
