Would anyone else have the same opinion here as me, I have studied marketing and branding etc. It is my humble opinion that the German discounters Lidl and Aldi ( who I heard were brothers) get the brand leaders or close 2nds on their side by offering them sole provider in their stores which are nationwide, htis means their product would have no other competition in their stores by other brands, provided they go under the aldi/lidl packaging. This is why their quality is so good. Any of the branded products in these stores I would imagine are the same make as the lidl/aldi variety, perhaps this is to test which performs better when no other competitors are involved. Examples include Weetabix, pepsi, harribo, crosse and blackwell etc.
When in Spain on holiday, I couldn't buy weetabix anywhere, so I tried lidl there, it wasn't on sale there either, under either the bixies or weetabix names. My reckoning they are the same, any difference is in the head. For fruit and veg the E.U. legislates that the class of the fruit and veg must be shown, so far I have only seen class I on them in these stores. My mandarins were from Jaffa, just this week. As regards meat & milk, again E.U. legislation states that these products must show country of origin plus product number (in an oval shape usually), thus you can have milk coming from the same cow going to a branded product and aldi/lidl milk too.
On speculation I think the aldi shave gel for women is Wilkinson Sword as its the only one that does a melon fragrance. I thnk that Flash does the floor cleaners. Anyone else got any other ideas about the lidl branded goods?Penny xxx

I have always considered the issue of Product Recalls to be an indication of the source of many Products.
I seem to remember a major recall of baked beans that concerned several retailers (though I cannot remember which ones), that translated to me as the product being from the same manufacturer/supplier.
You can discount the likes of the Sudan recalls, where an untold number of products were involved due to it being a major core ingredient, but where the likes of plastic bits, etc. in the cans are concerned, does this not indicated the same supplier?-=Mr-J=-0 -

Bought a spare 26" mountain bike tyre from Tescos Tesco branded box, they were marked down for clearance (apx£4) When I fit it it turns out its a Kenda, not sure what model but it looks pretty good.

I also went to buy some finish line winter oil from halfords the guy told me to buy there home brand (£1 cheaper) as its made by the same people. The oil is a bit runny and is orange instead of green but it seems to be doing the same job.0 -

I agree with much of what you say. I'm sure the Lidl 'weetabix' is as close to the real thing as makes no difference. Most of their other products are very good as well, notwithstanding the low prices. I regret the recent listing here on this forum of scores (+/ -) for various Lidl/Aldi/other products. Such a listing makes it look like they are guilty of selling junk until proven otherwise. I reckon the incidence of disappointing products (for me) at Lidl is lower than with Waitrose, yet Waitrose has created this illusion of 'high quality' for people with money to burn.
