I heard that when M & S went to ORMO (long established bakery in N Ireland) to get them to produce traditional Irish breads (soda and potato farls) M & S tried to tell them how they wanted them made and ORMO firmly told them that they had been making them for years to a traditional recipe which they refused to alter. They apparently still got the contract. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Mikiec wrote:Matsui VCRs are made by Sony! Dixons employees will deny this if you ask them because they've been told they'll be fired if they admit it! Not sure about other Matsui products but other posts seem to point to a whole load of companies.
I can assure you that Sony definitely do not manufacture anything for Dixons Stores Group. Matsui videos are not made by Sony as Sony themselves don't even manufacture their own. Sony VCRs have been manufactured by Samsung for the last 4 years, that's why their once renowned VCR quality has deteriorated since...
I worked for Sony for a good few years until January.0 -
Oh, and I forgot, the Debenhams fashion argument also applies to lots of celebrity foodstuffs, and kitchen appliances etc. Usually the celebrity doesn't know what is being sold under his or her name/brand, unless of course they also get to star in the TV ad!
The licence is given to a company by the celebrity's agent and then the company goes out and sources products from manufacturers, on which to stick the label. From pasta sauces to gardening tools. The same goes for other fashion labels, who will put their brand on another house product and sell it in their own stores!
And it costs more because of the licencing fee, royalities etc. Not because it has been personally designed, created, tested, tasted or even approved by the celebrity in question. (Some celebs do take a more active interest than others, but most get involved when the cheque comes in).
Great way to get you to spend even MORE money on exactly the same product that you were already spending more money on in the first place!!!!0 -

A few years ago (so may not be correct now) I did agency work for Mr Kipling and their batternberg cakes were also asda and m&s to name a few. The price varied from 56p to 90p but m&s sell by date was also 3 weeks shorter than asda. So it was the same cake but alot fresher.0

The electronics brand LG (formerly Goldstar) is owned by Philips and has been for a few years.
My LG widescreen tv, which is 6 years old, has a Philips tube inside.
I'm sure that I've read recently that Sainsbury's electrical own brand MiCO, is made by Mitsubishi.0
