  • Thats disgusting.

Just to cheer you up further, the peas were removed from their vines and pods by threshing machines at the farms, and delivered in large containers. They were also accompanied by various approximately pea-sized spiders. The peas were passed down a "riddle" belt to remove stones. However, I never found out at which point (if any) the spiders were extracted.

Thus, if you ever come across a green (after bleaching/dying) pea with legs .......
    Titch :)

Yes apprently it does, i know i used to buy bagged salads and things before he told me.

i don't know how long they do it for but he says that he's pulled out some really ropey looking thing like tomatoes that have started to go mouldy

so god knows how fresh some of the stuff is !!

    It gets worse then!

Time some of us got away from some of these conveniece foods. That's the last we'll be buying. Back to 'fresh' as in made at home for me.

    As for the peas ....

  • Some years ago I used to work for a softdrinks company who produced most friut juices for most supermarkets. The company used to also make Sunny D.

My job was to add the ingredients (concentrated juice, water, aditives, etc) in to a large decanter that produced 50,000 litres at a time.

Once the friut juice was made up (Orange, Pinapple, Grapefruit, Etc) it would go off to the packaging department to several different machines each with diiferent supermarkets packing (this also includes brand name juices.

    The bottom line is:

Most friut juices produces in the UK are only made by a couple of companies,

And all juices are the same!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A few years ago I wanted a portable TV, went to Dixons, pointed out a Grundig model and was told that there was only the display model left but for £20 cheaper I could have an identical Matsui model, even the remotes were identical, but lesser known brand. This is was a while ago now though.

Also, my Alba VCR is identical to boyfriends Pacific VCR inside and out, only diff is my remote is grey, his black. Both were bought from Asda within the last few months.

Don't forget ex-display models when looking for a bargain - i saved £50 on a hifi and £200 on a laptop this way.

I will never eat another marrowfat or other tinned pea again. We need to know what goes on and what accompanies our food.

To check whether generic medicines are the same as name brands, look at the PL (product licence) number on the packaging. If the number is the same, the product is the same.

My mum is a locum pharmacist and points out as standard to customers the cheaper generic stuff, even if branded is asked for, however, many pharmacists are told not to do this and to sell the branded, eg ask for 'cough medicine' they will give you the most expensive unless you specifically ask for cheaper / generic.

Also, beware of being prescribed meds which are actually cheaper over the counter compared to the prescription charge.

Regarding peas - if you go to Harry Ramsden's takeaway, ask for the real mushy peas (done in a giant pea boiler from dried peas). These are usually reserved for the restaurant only and if running low, the takeaway gets tinned microwaved - you can tell straight away as proper mushy peas aren't very green, but tinned ones are luminous and taste rubbish in comparision! I worked there for 2 years and hated serving them.

    ...Grundig ...Matsui...

None of these are exactly top brand names anyway. Curry's pretty much control Matsui and Grundig anyway

Grundig sure as A arent made by the people that they used to be. A lot of previously good names have gone this way

Sony were late in the market for LCD TV's so they do not make their own, they buy in Samsung LCD screens and label them as Sony. Also Philips and LG have a joint venture in LCD TV's so theses two brands are essentially the same too.
Korea are the biggest producers of LCD TV's in the world at the moment.
On the CRT TV front, Philips are the biggest manufacturer of tubes and supply to a number of other big brands.

About 5 years ago I heard a report on Radio 4 into orange juices by someone like Which? They'd tested all the reconstituted juices, and proven that the contents were almost identical in all of them - the conclusion was that you pay extra to get the opener/pourer attachment only. So I went out and bought a dishwasher-proof jug, and stocked up on value-brands that I pour into the jugs - saved a forture over the years!
