  • hello people

in a past life (quite recently!!) i used to do a lot of basic repair and adjustments on cars. wheel tracking was my forte. i'd see an vauxhall astra or cavalier come in for tracking, new or not so new, and know immediately that i would be shackled to that car for 30-50 minutes. this was because the components would be siezed up and would require much elbow grease, oxy-acetylene (lots of heat!) and lots of squirty oil to get the parts moving. - without exception every single one over a few years of working on them would be siezed up. (carleton's were the same..)
Daewoo brought out the nexia (foreign astra) and a larger model (i forget the name, but basically a cavalier) and even today (old customer's still come to me) they are never, never, ever siezed up - 10 minutes and they're all done.
seems to me they were producing much cheaper cars out of far superior steel, thus creating better components as well.
does anyone know if daewoo supply motor factors (as opposed to manufacturers?)

Sony were late in the market for LCD TV's so they do not make their own, they buy in Samsung LCD screens and label them as Sony.

Correct, but... it's only the actual screen that is manufactured by Samsung. All the other components which actually make up the image quality ie. A/V converters, controllers etc. are Sony manufactured. In contrast to CRT (and as strange as it sounds), the screen is one of the most least important components in an LCD. The difference in specification and quality between all the manufacturers is negligible. There are 18 main processes an image goes through on your average LCD screen, an awful lot components to deteriorate an image, the superior the board and chip technology, the better the image quality.

Don't assume that a Samsung LCD is identical to a Sony. The gulf in the image quality is massive, compare them side by side. You'll be surprised... the reviews really do speak for themselves.

Some years ago I used to work for a softdrinks company who produced most friut juices for most supermarkets. The company used to also make Sunny D.

My job was to add the ingredients (concentrated juice, water, aditives, etc) in to a large decanter that produced 50,000 litres at a time.

Once the friut juice was made up (Orange, Pinapple, Grapefruit, Etc) it would go off to the packaging department to several different machines each with diiferent supermarkets packing (this also includes brand name juices.

    The bottom line is:

Most friut juices produces in the UK are only made by a couple of companies,

And all juices are the same!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But were the main fruits the same, as in was the quality of oranges, pineapples etc the same? Or were some on the manky side? :pale:

(What's up with the icons? Have they read this thread?)

Sorry to be skeptical, but some of these posts sound like urban myths.

An so what if factory X makes products for Retailers Y and Z? That doesn't make them the same.
What makes them the same is:
    1. Identical ingredients/recipe (for food).
    2 Identical manufacturing processes.
    3. Identical quality control

    etc.

For food, compare the labels -- even the you won't know if the ingredients are the same quality, but it's a start.

    Doug,

Some of the posters on here have mentioned that they used work in X factory and only used to stop their lines to change the packaging from one super, market to another so how can that be an urban myth

    No offence meant ;)

He's not wrong you know. Did you know that in a CRT television one of the main determinants of quality is the power supply. A good PS will give good screen geometry and a poor one will cause the picture to change size slightly as the brightness changes. Hence the expensive Loewe ranges look so much better than the Panasonics with which they share tubes (AFAIK - i'm pretty sure I remember this right, I used to sell them). A good PS costs money and is an easy place to keep the costs down when customers baulk at paying more than £400 for a big widescreen now that Plasmas are all the fashion

But No. 7 (posh boots brand) is made in exactly the same place as their cheaper No.17 brand is made... exactly the same type of ingredients.. just cheaper... i know this as i'm an employee  Hope this helps

Also Lancome's popular Juicy Tubes (v.expensive lip gloss) is made by the same people who make Maybelline's tubey lip gloss (the name escapes me!)

Are you saying the ingredients are the same type but cheaper
or the product is cheaper and the ingredients are exactly the same?

Not trying to be a pedant, but it is unclear

interesting comment on Aiwas website -

"Aiwa now uses Sony's production as well as materials procurement, information systems and distribution infrastructure so as to create an operation that can respond speedily and efficiently to changes in the market. however Aiwa has, and will continue to retain it’s own identity as a brand and will sold and marketed completely separately form Sony. Aiwa products are manufactured to exactly the same standards of quality and reliability as Sony, but they remain differentiated by their own unique design, features and market positioning."

To sum up - exactley the same product - just a rubbish (sorry Unique) design.
