  • Yep - have to agree on the Ferrari - friend has a Fiat Panda and its simply a rebadged Ferrari 355, since Ferrari are owned by Fiat. However, I have noticed that the acceleration seems to be slightly slower on the Panda.

Hmm, not so sure about that ;) They rust just the same, though...

Just looked on their website and there are no John Lewis branded washing machines????

They are only available in store, possibly only in selected ones (Oxford Street has the full range).

I used to work for Nestle and it was an ongoing joke that most of the stuff we made for the higher end of the market was the same stuff as the lower end but with a prettier packet.

Buitoni pasta is the same as Tesco, Asda or any other supermarket.
Giving up is easy...... just keep on trying!
  • I have been told by a friend who has a relative working for Tesco Marketing that Achor butter make their Value butter.

I can confirm that the Do It All / Focus DIY own brand paint was made by AKZO NOBEL (Crown Paints) up until around 3-4 years ago.

When Focus bought Great Mills, they decided to take up their own brand paint instead. It's now made by SIGMA KALON in Batley, West Yorkshire.
  • I used to work in Tesco and can confirm that the "Value" bread is the very same as the Tesco branded bread, only at a fraction on the price. Infact it looses money just to get you in the store. It is known as a loss-leader and the same applies to lots of other value items. These "loss-leaders" are also found in the form on CDs, DVDs,Books and many other products.

A mate of mine once told me he had visited a KP nut packing factory. He said that whilst he was there, they stopped the production line, changed the packaging to Tescos, and retstarted the line again. As far as he could see, nothing else was altered.

Therefore KP nuts = Tesco nuts
  • does anyone know who really makes matsui stuff?
    it's a dixons/curry's own brand

They are made by different plants in asia, basically the plant that will make it for the cheapest to give dixons/currys group the best mark up.

Im a electronic engineer by trade (although i dont do it any more) and you will be surprised at the way different companys swap parts etc

I read in an earlier post about an hitachi tv using a phillips tube ........ hitachi do make there own tubes but they may not have had a plant to make either that size of tube or it might have been a more basic model or a more expensive model. It could have been cheaper for them to buy in the tubes rather than changing one of there plants to make a tube for that TV.

One of the most best storys ive heard is about bang & olufsen video recorder, my step grandad had one and it went wrong so he opened it up and it was a rebranded hitachi model.

You dont always get what you pay for.

Weather you get a B&O or Matsui there all only made to last about 3000 hours. Thats about 3 years in home use....... to prove it look at the price of a professional Video player they are about £1000+ becuase there rated at 20,000+ Hours

I bought an electric shower from Wickes a couple of years ago - branded Aquatronic. These showers are made by Triton.

Stuff like Matsui can be made by anyone and everyone, usually anonymous Asian or eastern European companies. A lot of cheap no-name TVs and DVD players are made by Turkish company Vestel, for example.

First post to the forums- Hi everyone......

It is hard to know sometimes, who makes what for who? Look at Matsush1ta Electronics corp (can't spell it the real way or the server gets upset at the swear word it contains!)..... they own Panasonic, Technics and JVC. How many times have you sat staring at the range on offer in an electrical retailer thinking "Hmm I wonder if that Technics really is better than JVC". There's a good chance the internals are of the same quality!.
