Apologises if this is already somewhere else, couldnt find it on a search.
How many Tesco Value products are exactly the same as their Tesco Own Brand labelled products?
I ask the question because this week I have brought a box of Tesco Value bran flakes and a box of Tesco own brand Brand Flakes.
Having done this I thought I would put them all in the same cereal carton I had, on doing so the looked identical, so I checked the nutrional and ingredient details on both packets, to find that there is no difference between the two. Do users of the forum no of any others, that maybe no different, but the price to put them in a fancy box0 -

As this is more a shopping rather than Old Style question I'll move it over to the Food Shopping & Groceries board.

Yep, there's not that many bran flake factories in the world, but there's many box printers lol0

I have only tried a few of the Tesco Value foods and can say that I tend to notice the difference.
Chicken Peices, the value range is 99% chicken and 1% additives/water. I have tried the normal priced stuff (100% chicken) and have to say I prefer the value range as it is not coated in wierd stringy stuff- not sure if they are supposed to be like this but I tend to find they just have this odd springy skin over them! The value range does not.
The diet lemonade: definate difference! I didn't think it was possible to make the normal range diet lemonade taste any worse, it appears it is.
Bagged apples, tend to be OK but you really have to look at the bad, quite often the value bags are so bruised its amazing they manage to sell any! Still I suppose if your making cooked pies or own a horse they could come in useful?
Bagged pears are fine if a little on the small side but still taste as good and actually good for dieting- quite often we eat to end the packet/item we have bought, if I chose a smaller option I can train myself to eat less!
Bagged frozen broccoli- perfectly fine and just as good as the normal range stuff. You get 1kg on the standard priced stuff and 907g in the value range though and the price is not that much lower (infact last time I looked there was only 10p in it) so bewary of this one, its not really 'Value' IYSWIM.
Facial wipes- did not like. Have not tried the standard priced stuff but have tried branded types and they are much better! The texture, the ability to wipe away all make up (including mascara) the value range just cannot do any of that! Maybe good for the odd powdered make up spill on cheeks but thats about it.
Value prawns, either frozen or chilled, just way too small for me. I am sure someone can use them- maybe in sandwiches? but alone I would not bother, the standard priced version is 10 times the size and has a much better texture as a result.
Value bleach? not string enough for toilets IMO, but maybe good for other household tasks. I prefer to pay more and not use seven times as much to get the same job done.0 -

You may have seen the adverts on the tv shopping channels for the JML magic bullet blender ... which in fairness i think is a superb product .. but at their £64 delivered is too much really ..
http://www.jmldirect.com/The-Original-Magic-Bullet-PM4000/
To my surprise i then found the Hinari Genie .... how identical can 2 products look ?? !! ... best deal i found is on Amazon at £22.49 delivered .
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hinari-MB280...2659934&sr=8-1
Out of interest i emailed Jml saying i thought they looked identical .. and could they explain why there's was 3 times the price ?
First reply was simply ...
"
Thank you for your recent correspondence. We can confirm this is not the same product. "
I wrote back , saying i was very unhappy with that simple response . They replied ...
"Although the product looks similar, we cannot list specific differences as we are not familiar with the other product.
We are sorry to be of no further assistance in this matter "
i wrote back again saying i simply could not believe " we are not familiar with the other product" .
Their response ...
"The product you are referring to is not a JML product therefore we would be unable to assist you in determining differences between that product and the JML product. It looks similar and that is the only comparison we would be able to make. "
I gave up ... and ordered the Hinari from Amazon . Received 48 hours later .. delighted with it !!
Well you must have had some effect as JML are now selling the unit at £29.99!

windscreen viper ... "Well you must have had some effect as JML are now selling the unit at £29.99 "
plus the £4.95 p& p of course !! ... but suprised to see it back up already today to £59.99
Amazon still £22.49 for the Hinari delivered .
I saw the JML reduced price the other day .. did send an email to the Jml girl commenting on their more competitive price ....
the email bounced back .. " ........ does not work for the company anymore " !.0 -

The Malt Loaf used to have Soreen labels on
The Power Craft pressure washers were made by Karcher

My sister in law used to work for Hovis and when they made Hovis white bread half of the batch would be bagged up in Hovis brand bags and the other half would be bagged in Tesco Value brand bags.
Had a tour around a well known cider factory> They were upfront when i asked if the cheaper white ciders etc were same p**s in different bottles...YES0 -
In Aldi the other day, saw some jams which had jars awfully similar to the bonne maman brand. I'm thinking they could be one and the same? Not sure though.
EDIT: jam not bonne maman in the end, sorry!0
