I don't use ariel washing powder a I'm pretty sure it's what caused my rash a few years back! Never used Tescos tho...

Best excuse I have heard of for a rash.(must remember that one)!

And what reason did you give for it not affecting your hands?
  • I've just replaced a ceramic fuse inside a Crown microwave oven. All the working parts were marked Toshiba.

Be careful with electrical items thinking that it is made by someone else and rebranded. Microchips are bought in and soldered on by most manufacturers as there are only a few chip producers - toshiba being one of them. For example if you opened up a Sony piece of kit you would not find every chip with the Sony brand on it.

That said there are brands made by leading manufacturers as a budget range - Aiwa is a Sony budget brand i believe. However some of the parts and manufacturing may be of a lower level to keep the costs down.

As with tv's - new LCDs and Plasmas, there are only a few plants that make the glass screens, thus most manufacturers buy the screens and then put their own casings on them. HOWEVER - the big part to a good picture is the software that runs the imaging and this is the bit that comes from the manufacturer. Samsung and Sony make the best in my opinion. Philips and Toshiba are also getting good reviews. If you go over to the likes of AVForums many of the cheaper brands you find in the likes of woolworths (or did!) tend to break more often, and small niggles appear soon after using.
  • I used to work for twinings and they also produce fortnum and masons tea and jackson's of piccadilly. the tea is exactly the same they just change the labels its called and envo change. but the tea blend is exactly the same for all brands.:D
  • I think that possibly the confusion over the chocolate is down to the supplier. The supplier of liquid chocolate to Cadburys, Thorntons & many, many others is the same Belgian company - but each UK company takes a different recipe of chocolate - a different blend or whatever. Some companies (which includes Cadburys) then add their own 'secret' ingredients, but many companies just use the chocolate as supplied

I have a family member who works for the Belgian chocolate company - which no-one will have heard of the company name - yet they supply chocolate to the majority of companies in the UK that are chocolate 'manufacturers'. I had always assumed that these companies made their own choclate, but they don't, they ship it in in liquid form and use that the create their chocolates, chocolate bars etc.

I've also heard they might be made by AEG. However my sister got a free 3 year warranty on her John Lewis brand washer dryer, which maybe worth taking into account.

Yes they are made by AEG, all come with a minimum 3 year g'tee. And most of the components are the same, just ask one of the partners, they will explain it.

But are they made by Weetabix? That's the point of this thread.
