O2's new tariffs

Seems like the price for new contracts (with new phones) has gone up with O2.
They now charge £149 for the phone on the low usage contracts
I am coming out of my 18 month Iphone contract for £35 (600 mins and 500 texts) and I am quite pleased to see the Simplicity contract will save me between £15 and £20 a month depending on if I go for a 12 month contract or not (I currently don't use all my texts and minutes).
Obviously I do not get a new Iphone but mine is fine at the minute and I have insurance in case it starts playing up.
Are the simplicity price plans more expensive then they used to?0
