I've been on PAYG for years with O2 - no problems, but have decided I'd like to move to contract - but having decided at the end of last week, I've not had two attempts to try to persuade them to do a better (at least matching) deal on the handset I want with other providers.

No ball playing at all - tried last week and this week - and the person I spoke to happily gave me my PUC on request, and made no attempt to keep me - so I'm now working out how to use up my PAYG minutes with a view to moving.

Shame really, as I was quite happy with O2.

Yet another reason I am porting over to T-Mobile from O2 then, poor customer service.

I was advised TWICE that Video Calling still comes out of your minutes and this is a service I still use at times.

I expect once the iPhone gets Video Chat everyone will go nuts over it.

Yeah and Apple will charge you a bomb for it!

    Hi,

I am on "the old" £20, 30 day simplicity deal for the iphone with 600 min, 1200 txt, unlimited data and wifi.

Earlier today, I ordered a netbook and started researching mobile broadband tariffs and the use of USB dongels. Then I saw a few mins ago, that o2 now has an Internet Tethering bolt-on for this deal, called:
Daily Modem Data + Unlimited Wi-Fi

    £2.00 a day

I admit, I am not familiar with all the details of tethering, the only thing I know is that I would have to use my iPhone as the modem rather than the USB dongle. So, please let me ask you a few questions, hoping that you might know the answer (I am actually quite sure most of you do):

1/ If I can use the iPhone, is there any reason why I should still buy a dongle? Any advantages of using the USB dongle over the iPhone?

2/ Can I put this bolt-on on my "old" Simplicty deal without getting one of the new tariffs that are so negatively reviewed in this thread?

3/ In order to use this 2 pounds a day option, what do I have to do? Step 1: Call o2 and activate this feature? Step 2: Once activated, how do I actually use the iPhone as the modem? Do I need extra hardware or how does it work? Step 3: Will o2 automatically charge me with the 2 pounds everytime I log on the internet using the iPhone in combination with my netbook?

Would be grateful for your answers. Thank you!

Stupid me! Ok, so just saw on the Apple site that its either via Bluetooth or the standard USB cable that came with the phone.

One "mistery" solved, 2 to go..... ;)

Has anyone had any luck with retentions and the new tariffs?
I'm hoping I'll be able to get a decent deal on the X6.

They have a new £15 tariff, hoping they'll give me the phone free with internet added. Gonna try my luck later but was wondering if retentions have got fairer or stricter!

I've just upgraded to the X6 on the £15 per month tariff. IMO it is a good deal as the phone is free, on other networks you would have to spend more each month to get the phone free. Good luck with the internet option, I guess it will depend on how much they want to keep you! I don't spend enough each month for them to offer me any special deals!

    Hey

    Just got,
    600 Minutes
    Unlimited texts
Unlimited Blackberry and wi-fi(not sure how to use the wi-fi?!)
    Unlimited Weekend calls
    Blackberry bold 9700 for £50
    @£37.50 pm on a 24 month contract
and £180 credit on second bill

Probably not the best deal available but I cant move as I dont get signal from orange where i live and my experiences with t-mobile are not good.

Got this on both my numbers although registered on two different accounts, all I can say is push and be friendly they are amazingly busy so be polite as they're not going to be helpful if your rude to them.
  • Can any one clarify this for me?

Are MMS no longer included in the texts allowance? (its says Your inclusive text allowance can be used for UK text and picture messaging, but the T&Cs say you will be charged, Picture messages or video messages sent to UK mobiles will be charged at 20p per message.)

If sending a text from abroad, will I be charged, or will they take 4 texts from my allowance, as previous?

Voicemail is this no longer free?

Are you referring to the new simplicity SIM deal? If so, it looks like this is the case now. The old simplicity SIM did have the allowances you quote. Looks like o2 are giving with one hand whilst taking away with the other. :(

Will the original Simplicity customers get migrated?
I have had no notice from O2, however have sent picture messages and it is still under the 4/1 text deal, will be hanging onto this for as long as possible

If you have an existing contract / simplicity they cannot migrate you over unless you tell them to. The current tarrifs are not great. I am sooo glad that I got in there before the changes. Kerching!
