Heh...if you're feeling really evil, a short, sharp tug of the handbrake usually does the trick :)

Not that I'm suggesting anyone tries this....

Even I wouldn't do that in my younger days
Yanking the handbrake like that could make you spin easily

My apologies. I must have mis-understood this.
You did. If you look at my earlier replies I stated I no longer do this, I used to do it when I was 20-21 and immature. I've grew up quickly when it came to cars.
NO, because by the time the body realises the issue it is toooo late
Can you explain why all the people have never crashed into me when I stamped onto the brakes and they were hanging on my back end my car?

Like I said, I'm not suggesting anyone actually tries this, but locking the rear wheels should not cause a spin unless you panic and swerve or do something similarly daft at the same time.

    Ofcourse, just stating that's all

The handbrake has around 80% breaking power on all cars so it's more powerful than front brakes which would make it more dangerous.

Obviously different cars have different splits but it's risky.

I usually just reserve the handbrake for playing in snow :D

As a general point, I think the most dangerous [STRIKE]drivers[/STRIKE] road users (I'm including pedestrians, cyclists and others in this) are the ones who make assumptions, rather than reading the road properly.

That can mean assuming that the child playing on the pavement won't suddenly run out into the road, or the car waiting at a side road won't pull out in front of you, or that there's nobody in your blind spot, or (as happened to me yesterday) that the police car opposite you at a crossroads won't just turn right across you without indicating

I'll add to that list assuming that because you're driving at the speed limit you are entitled to block other drivers and antagonise them, or assuming that you can drive right up someone's bumper and still be able to respond to an incident.

One final point about the reaction time debate - I would encourage those who think tailgaters can react quickly enough to avoid danger to re-read the post that started this thread in the first place.

Not at all, but since when did driving 40 in a 40 means I should speed up?
I already stated in one of my earlier posts that if someone wants to overtake I let them.

Crikey! I can see we have much to learn from you, not to mention automotive engineers.

I foolishly thought that front brakes were the most powerful as under most circumstances the 'weight' of the vehicle is transferred to the front and leads to a 'light' rear.

I think for the moment I'll continue to use the footbrake for braking and the parking brake for parking. I await with interest until your re-think on brakes is incorporated into the design of F.1. cars and can be further developed.:D

You shouldn't have to speed up, I completely agree. I'd also move over and let someone through who wants to speed, if for no other reason than wanting to be as far away from him/her as possible when they crash.

I was referring to those who sit in an outside lane when the inside is free, just so they can play at being a policeman and hold up those who want to break the speed limit.

You are, of course, entirely correct, DD.
