Revenge of the tailgated!

The way i see it, if an accident or near miss could be caused by them being to close to you and that accident or near miss could be avoided if they were further back then its you have a right to slow down for your own safety and to stop them hitting you to hard if you did have to swerve or hit the breaks.
But it doesnt give you the right to slam on the brakes or anything as that would be reacting to a dangerous activity in a dangerous way like someh said.
Someone said on page 1 or 2 they swerved at the last minute to go around the pot hole and then the tailgating van behind went into it because he was too close, you could say two things about this, one being on the drivers side and one being on the tailgaters side. The first thing you could say is, the driver could have swerved earlier and not at the last minute just to make the tailgater go in the hole, but on the other side if the tailgater wasnt following so close then he would have seen the pot hole.
And i personally think it was the tailgaters own fault for driving in the pot hole as the driver that was being tailgated should be able to swerve at the last minute just like they should be able to brake in a emergency without causing a collision with the car behind as the people behind should leave enough room.0 -

What exactly is going to happen if you clip the car on the rear corner? I'll tell you. You are going to put that car into a spin and knock it of the road. Thats how you are putting them at risk:mad:
They brake so early and slow their car down so slowely it's impossible to clip them.
I don't need a two second gap to react with.
A previous post I just spotted said about people that drive slowly, get in the right-hand lane a mile or more before the roundabout. < A huge thing I hate, in a way it forces you to undertake them.
Has anyone else noticed that lately more and more people can't even be bothered to put their hand up and say thanks when you go out of your way to let them pull out or come past you in a slim road?0 -

Have started to notice people not saying thanks when i let them out.
But havnt noticed it when i let people overtake as i dont let them, i dont go out of my way to stop them but if im doing the speed limit and in the left or correct lane then i wont stop or go out of my way to let them pass. Obviously if they pass and they are doing over speed limit and they are just about to hit a oncomming car on the other side of the road i will slow down enough to just let them in but will make it still look like they cut in front of me, afterall its not fair on the oncomming car i i let them crash, but i will lean on the horn or just call him a idiot to myself and then carry on.0 -
I think that tailgaters are absolute a**holes.
It's the kind that annoy me were you are on a two lane road, traffic in the left lane so you go in the right lane and the speed limit is 40. However the car behind you plans on speeding at 55-60.
What can you do?
Heavy traffic in the left hand lane so I'm not going to undercut somebody and cause an accident so the a**hole behind me will have to slow down.
Now I've read most of this thread and there is so many people saying just get out there way. I think that they are the type of people to tailgate.
Theirs no exscuse to defend them as they are the ones bullying other drivers, into either speeding up and potentially being caught by a speed camera/police or causing an accident.
Tailgaters give you a choice (what you call bullying) Either move out the way, or don't.
You give tailgaters no choice, you're going to sit infront of them holding them back. Speeding or not, we all pay road tax (if on GB roads).
Like I said before, i tailgate. I've also been tailgated and it's dam easy just to take my eyes off the mirror and concentrate on my own driving.
Another thing that sucks: People that slam their brakes on as soon as they see blue lights coming up the road. That's the WORST thing you can do.0 -

The car coming past you bit; I meant down a slim road with a car coming towards you:P You pull in to let them past but they don't even say thanks.0 -

So what? Paying road tax does not give you a licence to break the law on two counts (dangerous driving and speeding)."There may be a legal obligation to obey, but there will be no moral obligation to obey. When it comes to history, it will be the people who broke the law for freedom that will be remembered and honoured." --Rt. Hon. Tony Benn0 -
The only time I'm ever 'tempted' to tailgate is behind pensioners doing 20mph in a 40 in their suzuki swift. If I'm ever unfortunate enough to reach that age, I'll be doing 100mph everywhere, not spending my last few breaths piddling about on the roads, saying 'Oooh look at that pigeon, Doris!'.0

I've seen two people crash off the road behind me, both on occasions where they couldn't maintain the tailgating when I pulled away round corners and they tried to catch back up.
Carburettors and flame out of the exhaust was more entertaining though.Happy chappy0 -
If anyone sees me right up behind them, you've pulled out in front of me and have caused me to slow down. The highway code states that you should drive on the left, and that you should not cause another motorist to change their speed or course. You've got at least 1 of these rules wrong, please get out of my way.
For anyone stuck behind someone else in the middle or outside lane (I realise this is not what the thread started about) saying they can do nothing except tailgate, you can have your lights switched on, drive slightly to the right in your lane, to make sure that you are in the driver's side mirror, and if you've followed for a while, you're perfectly within your rights to flash your lights at them to let them know that you're there. All of the above is much safer than tailgating. If I do this and it fails, I'll happily undertake, as they'll have been in the wrong lane for at least a mile by this point.0 -
