you should seek mental health advice instead
tailgating is highly dangerous reacting to the dangerous activity makes you just as dangerous

Matbe you should be more specific somech???

The way i see it, if an accident or near miss could be caused by them being to close to you and that accident or near miss could be avoided if they were further back then its you have a right to slow down for your own safety and to stop them hitting you to hard if you did have to swerve or hit the breaks.

But it doesnt give you the right to slam on the brakes or anything as that would be reacting to a dangerous activity in a dangerous way like someh said.

Someone said on page 1 or 2 they swerved at the last minute to go around the pot hole and then the tailgating van behind went into it because he was too close, you could say two things about this, one being on the drivers side and one being on the tailgaters side. The first thing you could say is, the driver could have swerved earlier and not at the last minute just to make the tailgater go in the hole, but on the other side if the tailgater wasnt following so close then he would have seen the pot hole.

And i personally think it was the tailgaters own fault for driving in the pot hole as the driver that was being tailgated should be able to swerve at the last minute just like they should be able to brake in a emergency without causing a collision with the car behind as the people behind should leave enough room.

The clue was in the opening title, revenge

They brake so early and slow their car down so slowely it's impossible to clip them.
I don't need a two second gap to react with.
A previous post I just spotted said about people that drive slowly, get in the right-hand lane a mile or more before the roundabout. < A huge thing I hate, in a way it forces you to undertake them.

Has anyone else noticed that lately more and more people can't even be bothered to put their hand up and say thanks when you go out of your way to let them pull out or come past you in a slim road?

Sorry Lukey but just because peeps don't measure up to your expected standards does nto make it ok to tailgate them. Maybe you should try a race track if you favour late braking???

I was a white van driver and when I have been a passenger with other people I have often told them to leave a bigger gap to the car in front, my experiance tells me that if I am behind someone (wether it be an elderly person or a learner or someone new to driving) if I get close and tailgate them it only makes them panick and either speed up when they should drive at a speed which they are comfortable and feel safe with, or they slow down because they panick, either way it does not help me get anywhere any quicker so give them space and safe overtaking opportunities will arrive.
As far as being tailgated goes I do not worry, I have a quarter of a ton sheet of metal right at the back of my van (usually called a tail lift).
The people who annoy me are the ones who come up the fast lane when everyone is doing 70mph and all the lanes are jammed solid so there is nowhere to go and they flash their lights at me. I usually move over to the middle lane as quickly as possible and then bully my way back in straight behind them and have a leisurley journey flashing them to move, I have in the past managed to do this for up to 30 minutes at a time!

So what? Paying road tax does not give you a licence to break the law on two counts (dangerous driving and speeding).

It gives me licence to be on the road. I passed my test obviously and I'm pretty suer I could pass it again. I bet most of these "slow" drivers couldn't pass again.

Pulling into the first lane between two cars is hardly "causing an accident". You make pulling into the first lane seem like a matter of life and death. They'll be past you in under a second so you can skip back out into the right-hand lane.

Tailgaters give you a choice (what you call bullying) Either move out the way, or don't.
You give tailgaters no choice, you're going to sit infront of them holding them back. Speeding or not, we all pay road tax (if on GB roads).

Like I said before, i tailgate. I've also been tailgated and it's dam easy just to take my eyes off the mirror and concentrate on my own driving.

Another thing that sucks: People that slam their brakes on as soon as they see blue lights coming up the road. That's the WORST thing you can do.

If anyone sees me right up behind them, you've pulled out in front of me and have caused me to slow down. The highway code states that you should drive on the left, and that you should not cause another motorist to change their speed or course. You've got at least 1 of these rules wrong, please get out of my way.
For anyone stuck behind someone else in the middle or outside lane (I realise this is not what the thread started about) saying they can do nothing except tailgate, you can have your lights switched on, drive slightly to the right in your lane, to make sure that you are in the driver's side mirror, and if you've followed for a while, you're perfectly within your rights to flash your lights at them to let them know that you're there. All of the above is much safer than tailgating. If I do this and it fails, I'll happily undertake, as they'll have been in the wrong lane for at least a mile by this point.

Unfortunately Al I also do this :o:o:o, legal in the states, should be over here;)

ok here goes
a tailgator is an overconfident k@:b who thinks he/she is the best driver in the world truth is most could'nt control a pedal cart.

those that react to tailgators are putting other road users in danger by using their car as a weapon.

personally i think tailgators and those that react to them should have their license revoked and be made to resit their test again.

personally i dont tailgate i drive to the limit (sometimes above conditions permitting) could'nt give a stuff if some ones up my chuff if they want to kill themselves by trying to overtake carry on.
think that covers my opinion;)

I'm amazed at what some of the people on here are admitting to.

Careless or Inconsiderate Driving - fine of up to £2500, 3 to 9 penalty points
Dangerous Driving - up to 2 years imprisonment, unlimited fine, disqualification

Isn't this all a bit like having people on the Freebies board trying to defend shoplifting :)
