Revenge of the tailgated!

I don't like tailgaters. I am not a faultless driver by any means, but one thing I am definitely not guilty of is following the car in front too closely. I don't know what kind of brakes some deluded people think their cars have.
I usually let them overtake when they can (I will neither speed up to prevent them, nor will I slow down to make it easier for them). Occasionally I will pull over.
I once had a lady tailgating me; I found that if I operated the windscreen washers, spray would go over her windscreen from my car and she would have to put her windscreen wipers on. I did this several times until she evidently got fed up of clearing her windscreen repeatedly and backed off.0 -
This thread has reminded me of something that works if you've got a passenger and a decent-sized camera. Tailgaters are generally *very* camera-shy..."There may be a legal obligation to obey, but there will be no moral obligation to obey. When it comes to history, it will be the people who broke the law for freedom that will be remembered and honoured." --Rt. Hon. Tony Benn0

I think that tailgaters are absolute a**holes.
It's the kind that annoy me were you are on a two lane road, traffic in the left lane so you go in the right lane and the speed limit is 40. However the car behind you plans on speeding at 55-60.
What can you do?
Heavy traffic in the left hand lane so I'm not going to undercut somebody and cause an accident so the a**hole behind me will have to slow down.
Now I've read most of this thread and there is so many people saying just get out there way. I think that they are the type of people to tailgate.
Theirs no exscuse to defend them as they are the ones bullying other drivers, into either speeding up and potentially being caught by a speed camera/police or causing an accident.0 -
Ofcourse, just stating that's all
The handbrake has around 80% breaking power on all cars so it's more powerful than front brakes which would make it more dangerous.
Obviously different cars have different splits but it's risky.
I usually just reserve the handbrake for playing in snow
I thought you said you learnt quickly when it came to cars.
Rear brakes are much less "powerfull" than the fronts and are only able to supply about 20% of required braking effort due to weight transfer to the front end under braking. You can lock the rear wheels with the handbrake and the car will hardly slow down.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

Most tail-gaters are so close, if you had a passenger & a camera their plate wouldn't show in the picture:eek::mad:0 -
I think anyone who is sticking up for the tailgaters on this site, is a tailgater themself.
When i was learning i was told if you have a dangerous driver behind you slow down and leave a bigger gap between you and the car in front. I just take this to the extreme and do half the speed llimit until the next roundabout, then i just go round the roundabout to let him past, but the mile or so of half the speed limit are fun.
And yeah it is usually a male in a white van, i think women are better drivers when it comes to tailgating as i dont htink ive ever had one tailgating me.0 -

You know, simply pointing a camera at them is usually enough. The threat of being brought to account for their dangerous driving is quite persuasive.i think women are better drivers when it comes to tailgating as i dont htink ive ever had one tailgating me.
20 years ago, I might have agreed with you, but not these days. Some of the most savage tailgaters that have been behind me in the last couple of years have been (young) women."There may be a legal obligation to obey, but there will be no moral obligation to obey. When it comes to history, it will be the people who broke the law for freedom that will be remembered and honoured." --Rt. Hon. Tony Benn0 -
i have just read all the posts on this one and most of you dont deserve to have a license.
you should seek mental health advice instead
tailgating is highly dangerous reacting to the dangerous activity makes you just as dangerous0 -
What about reacting to people who react to people who have reacted to being tailgated?0
