We ran out of marmite a couple of weeks ago so bought the big one in Mr S for £4.40! We eat loads of it in our house as the children can't take peanut butter to school (rules ). I've never seen anything apart from marmite in Mr S, don't think they sell their own (according to mysupermarket they don't).

I have a mini (empty) jar from when my DS1 was 6 months old. It says "My first jar of Marmite". They don't do them anymore...

epsilondraconis - I had a craving for a cheese/marmite sandwich the other day, yummy :D :rotfl:

What is the rule on peanut butter at the school?

I can't stand the alternatives - am gutted about that as they are soooo much cheaper. Also whatever they put into the tesco yeast extract makes me have an alergic reaction and I have to have an anti histemine!

Yes, in order to raise enough money to pay of the national debt, the new muppets in charge have increased the tax on alcohol and all related products. This includes products made from waste left over from the brewing process.

    You're kidding - right?

I think they are becoming very expensive, especially for fruit and veg. My 5 year old likes to take an apple to school in his lunch bag. I used to get the small Disney ones as they are a nice size and he doesn't just take a few bites and leave them. Anyhow, they banged the price up from £1.40 to £1.55 this week!! Instead I bought a special offer melon and half price grapes and chopped a bit up and put in a little tupperware box for him, he said it was nice and fancy pantsy :)

There's actually quite a big difference in taste between the various types.
Have to agree with this..we've tried most mother-may variants but always come back to the original. Plus I'd get lynched if we ever ran out

I love Marmite but it makes me sick. Don't know if it's allergy or what but it just doesn't agree with me. I sit and watch my b/f sadly when he's having marmite on toast... see if I can put him off.

Have been to Mr T today.

a few things I noticed whilst there.

    value ham 125g was 42p now 50p
    400g was 142p now 178p

dicounted corned beef 340g now up to 198p although the more branded were 168p.

All the eating apples were foreign imports, although at least there were loose ones.

there seemed to be alot of choc and crisps on specials

    Hey everyone!

My nearest large supermarket is ASDA. I shop there because to shop at Sainsburys, Morrisons or Tesco would add an extra 30 mins onto my travel time to and from, not to mention the increased cost in petrol.

Anyway, I wanted to start a thread to find out people's views about ASDA's not-advertised roll-forwards!

We all know that they advertise their Roll Backs like crazy, but I have been noticing ridiculous roll forwards for a long while now!

For example, this week they've decided to price a 1kg tub of Bertolli spread at £3.26. Tesco and Sainsbury's are currently selling the same item at £2.66, and according to the Tesco pricechecker, Asda were selling it at £2.64 last week. A few weeks ago ASDA was selling the same product at a rollback price of £2.00. So now it seems they are recouping their rollback 'loss' by rolling forward by 62p (23.5%) on their 'normal' cost or £1.26 (63%) on their rollback price.

I emailed ASDA about this and this is the reply I received:
Thank you for your email. Enjoy your next shop.
I am sorry that the price of Bertolli spread went up by 23.5%. That must have been disappointing.
Inasmuch as we would like to keep our prices low. Prices are bound to increase from time to time owing to increases in prices from the manufacturer or packaging.
Thanks for bringing this matter to our attention.
    Regards,

    ASDA Home shopping

Will the other 3 large giants increase their prices to match - most probably.

BTW If products were increased by 23.5% every time (and ASDA increases certain product prices multiple times per year), then we'll all be eating fresh air very soon, LOL! What a STUPID reply!!!

In light of the recent budget, money is even tighter, and I for one am not accepting of these ridiculous price hikes week after week.

I would like to contact Watchdog about this, but first thought it a good idea to find out people's views, however ... if you don't have anything constructive to say then please don't post (I am aware that I don't have to buy a certain product if it increases in price!).

Thanks everyone and look forward to hearing your thoughts.
